Zelda 3DS FAIL : How Nintendo`s attempts to age games and gamers like wine makes for the sourest of vinegars

Hey Listen................

Once proud up themselves British magazines Edge and Maximum wrote about this amazing Japanese company Nintendo , whose mascots , Mario and Zelda had become bigger brands than Mickey Mouse , but that was the early 90s , and referring to the NES and Snes  days of the 80s...

Media is no longer controlled by the media , and brands can no longer sell systems in the way that they could in our youth.

Zelda 3DS WILL NOT propel the 3DS to the level of sales of the smart phone , and tablet gaming industry which now owns the portable gaming space for the considerable future.

Any more than the PS VITA will resurrect Sony's misfortunes .

Cynical yes , but also Sad but True ..

What killed Nintendo and will Sony .. is their insistence on ageing games ,gamers and mascots , like they were some fine wine . Now this goes against that awesome Japanese tradition of starting a new , build a Shinto temple , knock it down in 20 years build a better newer one , their strength is the ability to move on and adapt , not , forget the past, but move on and adapt from it  , this what gave us modern day Japan .. always changing and evolving but traditional at the same time ..

This ethic is gone from Sony and Nintendo , perhaps in their eagerness to please the West they constantly rehash the same mascots , the same games .. instead of moving forward.

Conversely the unlikeliest of all competitors .. Apple are innovating by the second , enriching their fans as well as exploiting them , and the most famously closed company of all time is now the most open for games innovation , development , delivery and revenue returns ...

In 1998 magazines decided Zelda was perfect , to many of us OOT is the finest game ever created , so how on Earth are they going to improve on perfection, why would you even try? And was playing the portable version of Mario 64 as seminal as the time I went on a gaming pilgrimage to Akihabara and Hong Kong to buy my N64 and Mario 64 cartridge... ?of course not ...

The most astonishing thing about the PSVITA and the Nintendo 3DS is that anyone actually expected them to compete with smart phones and tablets . There is nothing shocking about 3DS consoles not selling ,  to any one in the real world outside the game critic media village .

Oh how mavericky....

You see in trying to age games like wine , Sony and Nintendo are souring their own grapes , this is their Mickey Mouse moment , like the moment in the 80s when Mario became more popular than Mickey , today an Angry Bird is more popular and pervasive than Mario or Zelda .Switch on the TV and every chat show has an Angry Birds sketch ,enough puppet air time to make a retired Muppet green(er) with envy.Further a perfect review score for Zelda 3ds on game critic sites will not save the 3ds . And you will not be seeing the likes of Jon Stewart setting up real world games of Zelda 3DS.. however good Olivia Munn looks in a green tunic and a feathered cap....atop a chestnut horse.... oh somebody slap me .....

In the UK get Zelda 3DS from Game , or Zavvi

and in the USA Search Amazon.com for nintendo 3ds
