Resistance Burning Skies : Nihilistic bring touch to A Game of Browns......and Yellows

One thing I have figured out about the invading alien species in the long running Insomniac originated Resistance series is that they are both Hot Chocolate and Coldplay fans , for the Earth that they keep invading is painted every shade of chocolate brown decollaged with every shade of yellow , when you spin up a Resistance game from those first days trashing Manchester's Cathedral through brown coloured cities in Resistance the second (in which developers chose to hide most of the gameplay in one of the finest online coop modes of any recent game release) and through to battling shooting from cover in 3D enabled golden yellow corn fields , ducking behind golden yellow hay bales of course all the time knee deep in brown fields of mud ,busting thrown brown Barns and town houses in Resistance 3 .

With assorted brown stuff blowing up all around you. Resistance is meant to be brown and yellow .. and in that case Nihilistic manage to nail the continuity from console to portable console . Burning skies brings all your favourite yellows and browns , but also of course brings touch , and once again like in Unit 13 , the combination of the size of the screen , and I mean small size , with dual analogue control makes the PS Vita FPS gaming experience totally unique and stand out from all other tablets and hand helds...

There are better looking FPS games on the new iPad , but none controls with the core like grace that Resistance Burning Skies does , on the PS Vita.

The Vita screen is the perfect size to allow touch and analogue control , there is a different approach here to Unit 13 , but then Resistance is all about introducing a myriad of weapons with multifunctional upgrades , you can access all the game lore , options , and weapon mods using touch outside of the main game . And there are mods galore as you can see from the pic below:

And you can see me getting used to the control scheme in the videos below which show part of the first level .

It is great to see Nihilistic back , just wish they could be let back on the Lucasarts waggon and do a true sequel to one of the greatest FPS game worlds ever , that being Dark Forces 2 : Jedi Knight . With less brown of course . You have not lived until you have experienced the amazing level design of Nar Shadaa the vertical city in Nihilistic's classic .

For me this is another feather in the PS Vita's cap . More to follow when I have played through the multiplayer ( when people turn up to play it tomorrow )
