We all know Venus is crossing or has crossed the Sun whilst I have been typing this , NASA has spent millions , astronomers world wide have been flown to exotic locales making good use of their funding grants, but thegameveda simply turned on the old joojoo , fired up the Star Map App and hit the Sun , over which Venus happens to be gliding . This is an excellent test of how Windows 8 Release Preview shines in making mundane tasks like actually learning something really really good looking . I of course being a disciple of Sir Patrick Moore since the time of the original Quatermass ,am fascinated by all things Astronomical . Star Map is one of the new Windows 8 Release preview Apps , and from my tests it seems to be more CPU dependant than GPU dependant as the joojoos ION should outdo my iconia's GMA but it does not .Still factoring in the cost of the Atom Ion Joojoo , I am spending several million dollars less than NASA to do the same thing. We also get to see Windows 8 multi pane Apps and desktop in action , so you can watch Venus track across the sun in a panel whilst doing other learned things like reading up on the competition , in this case NASA .
Of course the wise amongst you will have figured out I am actually using the Transit of Venus , a once in our lifetime event to test Windows 8 Release preview multi tasking , portrait and landscape modes , panel Apps ,swipes and hand writing recognition.
If you are not down with that then go see your local Penny , Penny , Penny .....
For those that remain let us see how an atom powered tablet tracks one of the most awesome astronomical events of our lives...
tap that bright yellow Sun like object to look for Venus...alternatively tap Venus...... |
bored ? then slide the Star Map App to the right , and surf to NASA look up info whilst you track Venus in App panel |
well at least I had something to do today to counter the boredom of another lame duck E3 full of sequels and out of retirement mascots preparing to return for the last time again...
