How does EA do Valentine's day ? Well more in a Valentine's Day Massacre than the choccies and flowers style. For with 50 % off Origin downloads of almost all EAs FPS games , the only red decorating your EA Valentine experience will be the bits of gib and virtual slomo evisceration decorating your pc monitor in the likes of Bullet Storm , Battlefield , Crysis 2 and Medal of Honor .
The real bargain here is the classic Medal Of Honor Airborne . Which was the zenith of EA trying to do something different to the military fps , bringing to a sad end the open ended multi route gameplay that EA was imbuing the Medal of Honor Series with. You see time was when MOH was the Call of Duty of its generation. But like all FPS games , it was really just based on a linear series of tunnels mapped with scenery and interspersed with set pieces and cut scenes . Which sounds scarily like COD now doesn't it Treyarch and Infinity Ward ( whats left of you )?
Then EA got brave , and the last few WW2 set MOH games had open ended maps with open ended objectives ,and routes , not just a linear corridor fps game with set pieces , and this for me makes them far better than the later MOH and FPS games that are all aping COD which of course apes the original MOH formula! In Airborne the game environment is key , a town is a town , you chose your entry point , multiple battles are going on in multiple locations you chose how and which order to tackle them , this actually gives you a far better impression that you are in a real world situation than the lovingly textured and conceiled cookie cutter corridors of later linear FPS games like the latest Medal of Honor and Call of Duty.
So I urge you to check out Medal of Honor Airborne , it is there on origin for just £2 and then get back on EAs case to stop aping COD or Battlefield with MOH and take it back in the direction of a sandbox multiple route fps that Airborne is thus far the finest example of.
