4g or not 4g that is the question ? For our Australian cousins have a special 4g network , one that the new iPad cannot use. Seems like someone was too busy prepping for the keynote trying to out Jobs Steve ,when they should have had their Iminions checking up on whether the new iPad can handle the various flavours of 4g.
Setting aside the fact that the majority of the world still has no 4g network ,including most of Europe , you still have to see this as slightly embarrassing for Apple and a good dose of schadenfreude for Apple sceptics . The Aussies are even taking the matter to court. Strewth! Will Apple retaliate ? Will the Aussies get a special version of the new iPad?
I see Apple linked with litigation too many times for my liking, and a direct follow on from Apple's closed hardware and software design credo : it often dictates to users , usually Apple does not care as you can send feedback all you like , to a company without a complaints department and get nowhere. This worked when Apple was smaller and users were signed up to the cult of Steve. But now we see Apple as we and governments used to see Microsoft ,I.e. The Big Bad ripe for litigation and court appearances. Australian courts clearly have not shied away from taking a stand for their consumers. And Apple is taking note, offering the possibility of refunds for the new iPad.
I cannot see anyone seeking a refund for an iPad based on lack of 4G compatibility at present , I do see millions of Apple Aussie iPad owners screaming at their government to introduce an iPad compatible 4g network. Who knows maybe Mr Seldon ..sorry Jobs foresaw and planned all this...
