So streaming apps like Citrix and Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPad - Splashtop Inc. , have been around since the first iPad and iPhone came into being. But the OS that they were streaming and the wifi they were piggy backing off could never really handle fast video or game intensive tasks , but with the arrival of Windows 8 and also faster wifi and broadband we are now at the point where you can stream the likes of Crysis 2, Skyrim , Modern Warfare 3 , old DOS classics , new MMOs like Star Wars The Old Republic ,basically anything your pc hardware can handle , the likes of Splashtop can handle it too .
So let's play Crysis 2 on the new iPad :
and now without shakey cam :
And of course we can play millions of PC classics too like the original Syndicate
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 also streams well to the new iPad , check out the pinch to zoom cheating giving you the ability to snipe with every weapon!:
Star Wars The Old Republic also ran well , there is no reason why you cannot stream World of Warcraft or any other of your favourite mmos . The Retina display is razor sharp , these videos are svga res so do not the experience justice!
The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim is something you want to play a lot of , so preserve your expensive LCD 30 inchers and use splashtop to play on your new iPad instead ...
There is one caveat to all this joy , Splashtop only runs games and apps in Windowed mode at this time .
Windows 8 optmizations would be nice so the app mimicks the swipes and flurries of the new king of touch based operating systems . Right now you are left learning Splashtops gestures on top of Windows 8 gestures .
The speed and stability of the Splashtop stream is most impressive , I never lost a connection in any of the lengthy tests I put it through.
I also love the idea of streaming a stream , playing Crysis 2 on Gaikai , we are java streaming the game on to my PC through a browser , and then streaming the game to the new iPad via Splashtop ... Cloud happy!
More tests to follow , and check out some screen shots of how it actually looks like to rock Windows 8 on your new iPad below :
