Raspberry Pi Model B Review Part 1: unboxing the future

A package arrived this morning, definitely a T Shirt from the shape of the bag , as I opened the package , there was indeed , Daniel Jackson , a T Shirt . I was about to discard the packaging when out dropped a small deck of cards sized box , with element 14 scrawled on the front , turning it over revealed it contained the wonder that is the Raspberry Pi .. 

My new T Shirt is on spin cycle and  various Raspberry Pi Linux downloads are going on as I type...und so to some initial pictures and impressions

the model B Raspberry Pi is smaller than a mouse ....

in fact you could probably fit it into an old PC mouse.... hey... listen.. 

Lets check out the connections on the Model B board

first an overhead shot .. 

In the first picture above you can see the HDMI port and below the 2 USB ports of the Model B and the on board Ethernet port ( eat your heart out Apple Retina Display Macbook pro owners!)

and round again we see the micro usb power connector 

the dream for me of course is to hook this up to a hmd like the silconmicrodisplay ST1080 and a year ahead of Google's project Glass we have portable computing albeit with a lot of battery and altogether too much cable. But we get to mess with this and not have to wait for google to dictate what wearable computing should be ...

With the arrival of tiny form factors like the Pi what we need is similarly bite sized peripherals and dongles , and cables , one of those flat hdmi cables is tempting me right now ... So if you are going for a slice of Raspberry Pi invest in some tiny dongles and flat cabling , or your Pi could look like this 

still gets the job done though , right off to install the OS more to follow
