Flash player 11 is said to have 1000 times the performance of Flash 10.2 and Adobe is touting Flash 11 as a NEXT GEN console launch , not just a media player , laughable yes , but remember that Adobe gets the last laugh ...as 70 to 90 % of the interweb still uses the bane of Jobs to stream , play and animate . And why not if it works why attempt to break it ? Flash frightens some because of its independence and unique ability not to shackle users within the much lauded walled garden app stores that Apple , Google and even Microsoft have sought to exploit. Anything you have to pay for or download can be played in a browser window free on your Windows or Macintel laptop, desktop or tablet...
You see freedom is sometimes free , and Flash 11 is aiming to bring that freedom to more devices than ever.
The true beauty of Adobe`s logic is to target all those walled gardens ,betting on all the horses, Android , iOS , Windows ,your TV,Blackberry , et al can all be developed for using AIR 3. For the end user there is no need to own a particular device to get your Dr Stanley`s House dose , or if you do have multiple devices play the same game across all of them ( hopefully with cloud saves so you do not need to go back to start on each platform).
Flash Player 11 is the first time many of us will see Flash working in our 64 bit browsers , and yes it runs like a dream on the desktop version of Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 , Chrome has yet to update as I type ...
Recently the magic of Onlive and java flavoured streaming of Gaikai have raised users expectations of what to expect from their instant gaming fix. Adobe responds with Stage 3D , so now Flash 11 uses the power of your GPU , whether it is that 9x faster GPU in your iPad 2 or the 4 cross fired ATI GPUS in the tower warming your house ..prepare for 1000x the performance of Flash 10 ..allegedly...I have to consider does this mean 1000 x faster loading pop up adds ?
Best of all budding coders can learn without locking into Android , or paid for iOS development programs ..check out game development here
Und so we come to the great question of our age , is there room for Flash in today`s HTML 5 obsessed world. To me a world dominated by HTML5 is just as frightening as one with Flash alone. And anything that accelerates and enhances your daily dose of Dr Stanley`s House 2 across all your media bases from your tv,tablet , phone to your pc deserves to be around for a long time to come.
A year or so ago people were debating about Flash not being present on iOs devices , heated CEO youtube events ensued , with the release of Flash 11 and AIR 3 Adobe has bypassed all the scuttlebutt and ensured Flash is relevant to all platforms irrespective of their former CEOs vehement objections and written tirades against the platform ...amusing as they were ...
