Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater opens the set, with series hero Snake entering a Soviet jungle where intelligence reports a vital scientist is being held captive. Set in the 60s of the Cold War, Snake Eater sees Snake using his stealth abilities in a whole new locale - under the cover of the jungle foliage where various camo fatigues can be used to sneak into areas undiscovered. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker takes place a decade later and details the operations of Big Boss in Costa Rica. The year is 1974, and Costa Rica has been overrun by an organization of highly-trained mercenaries. Working with a squad of neutral troops, Snake soon uncovers a CIA plot, and becomes embroiled in a mission to thwart a nuclear threat. The timeline then moves on to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, which is set in modern times and marks Raiden's first appearance in the series.
Solid Snake and Otacon receive intel that a new kind of Metal Gear vehicle is being transported across the Hudson River. Snake infiltrates the tanker, which is then seized by a group of Russian mercenaries lead by Revolver Ocelot. Two years pass, and a new terrorist faction calling themselves The Sons of Liberty have taken over the Big Shell base. New Fox Hound operative, Raiden, is sent to investigate.

Whenever the cool blogs talk about Metal Gear it always involves the misuse and murderously profuse overuse of the word "meme" so there I used it twice ... but ... what a game MGS4 is: THE greatest console game bar none this generation ... yay verily many a time ... well ok once .. thegameveda sat through 8 hour cut scenes in which I could switch camera angles to get a better view of cgi eggs getting fried.. handy as it was usually time for breakfast when the cut scene finished ( never START playing MGS4 at or around midnight) , MGS4 was even responsible for one of the 5 untimely (and always related to updates ) deaths of my PS3 consoles ... Console death aside ( how rock`n`roll for your games to actually kill your console? cf LA Noire ) MGS4 is simply has not been bettered as pure console game hokum . No game since has it`s production values or outrageous sense of ego .. true Assassin`s Creed lent it a game engine , but boy look at what Kojima san did with that engine . From beginning to 40 hour plus ending , including a finale that I swear lasted 12 hours ..... such experiences are what makes gaming great and takes them beyond any other entertainment medium. Metal Gear laughs at the 4 hour single player playtime of what now passes as AAA console gaming - the FPS genre that we are all fodder for and now we get to do it all over again ..and with added HD versions of the PS2s classic Metal Gear games ... SHINNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAKUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!
