Windows 8 playing Crysis 2 on Steam whilst using Onlive to play Assassin`s Creed Brotherhood and more!

Thegameveda has calculated that there is not sufficient lifetime available to play through all the games that have been and will be , therefore a cunning plan has been hatched to play through games 2 at a time . This plan has been put into action thanks to Windows 8 , Steam and Onlive . And also allows me to test how the Windows 8 developer preview handles gaming . Note we now have a touch based OS that allows us to flick through games and Apps , you have for the first time the power of an i7 powered tablet PC with more RAM and GPU power than IOS and Android Tablets could hope to dream of . So you can do things like run 2 games at once , whilst running Windows 8 and desktop Apps in the background and flick through them as easy as a Build demonstrator on happy juice ... 


check out video , this is my first games test using Windows 8 , but if anything it already feels faster than Windows 7 , perhaps because we have a raw os devoid of all the bloatware that may slow it down in later builds . 

Test machine Lenovo X220 T 4gb RAM i7 CPU Intel HD3000 GPU running Windows 8 off a 64gb Runcore msata ssd .. 


Crysis 2 is running in Steam natively using the i7 and HD3000 , I let the game choose settings (High) , Assassin`s Creed Brotherhood , Saints Row 2 , Mafia 2 all run instantly streamed using Onlive over wifi N .  


All in all this test shows that even in the developer stage Windows 8 not only  leverages maximum power as they say in Crytek speak from full PC components like  the  CPU , GPU , pen and touch tablet options , ssd storage , Steam , and wifi N dependent streaming services like Onlive but allows a level of multitasking no other OS or device without Windows 8 is capable of .... and this is just the developer build !

If you are in the market for a tablet hold on ditch Android and IOS before their stores own you , and hold out for a Windows 8 tablet , or just grab one that can run Windows 7 and install the Windows 8 preview ...

Batman Arkham City rave reviews unmask Catwoman DLC ...some will pay for and others will wait to download but the wise will just click and play

Another reason to own the Onlive version of Batman Arkham Asylum,   probably the game of the year so far .. starring Batman ... is the fact that you will never have to wait for DLC  downloads to complete  , just shove that ancient 360 or PS3 aside , set up the tiny console , or power up that netbook and click on and play , your game is there faster than downloading a video of a speeding bullet ....as fast as the little dog running circles around the big dog in that youtube video... you get the metaphor ..well Scooby and Shaggy would I am sure...


Yes a funny thing is going to happen to thegameveda , having preordered Batman Arkham Asylum the onlive version , it is going to be tres cool to click on the game and play,  as onlive promises no 20gb install or scratched dvds or blurays for my gaming generation! If your Internet connections too slow well pack your bags and we can all move to South Korea , or Japan ... wonder if they have onlive out there ...doh...!


In an age where the Unreal Engine can run in Flash , it is high time developers devoted as much thought to how their games are installed , patched and delivered . Theoretically Batman Arkham CIty could run in a browser through Flash , as could any recent Unreal Engine based game .... 


The coolest thing about Rocksteady is that they allowed their AAA game to release through the magic of onlive , oh and it kills the used game lost sales debate dead too , there is nothing to resell , and 1 yr from now the game will be cheaper than used retail , eg Bordlerlands can be had for £1.75 on onlive this weekend , and the profit from that goes back to Rocksteady , rather than 100% going to a retailer  after first depriving some poor kid of one of their favourite games in order to resell it ... But retailers fret not , though it is time to adapt or die.


What we really need is synergy , the publishers of Deus Ex in the USA attempted this , including physical , steam key and onlive key versions of the game in one retail box. Now if you could pull that off again without some dodgy retail chain antics then you would make a lot of fans for your games . 


Take me I would have the Steam version to play on a gaming rig maxed out over 5120 by 1600 or more . With cloud based saves I could then continue playing on a tablet or tv using Onlive , and all parties would benefit , the retail chain , Steam and Onlive ....synergy .... as they say ...

Onlive vs Steam : Halloween 2011 : The Fight for your Frights is on with free scary games for 3 days

You know onlive were not just going to sit around bobbing for Apples( come back Steve) this weekend , whilst Steam and others assail you with cheap games like F3AR with a vague link to Halloween , onlive have F3AR,METRO 2033 , ORCS MUST DIE AND AMNESIA   free instant games to play for the entire 3 day Halloween weekend and a 5th mystery one on Monday if you wish to follow them on facebook.

Come on you could easily play through these in 3 days , especially since they are instantly available , you could if you could tear yourself away from Battlefield 3 ...

Windows 8 Cloud gaming : Playing Dead Rising 2 GAIKAI and Lord Of the Rings War in the North onlive whilst messing around with Windows 8 Apps

Mae govannen...And so it came to pass  thegameveda , Dark Lord of Cloud gaming , sought solace from boredom one cold Autumnal night , and presently clicked on the magic Gaikai rune firing up the undead Dead Rising  2 demo from an IE10 browser, all the while fighting the craving for more gaming by messing with Windows 8 metro Apps . Still the precious called out , and so it came to pass that presently the Dark Lord was drawn to a golden ring of power on the Windows 8 taskbar instantly launching Lord Of the Rings War In the North demo on onlive ... playing two games instantly with the power of the Cloud .. The Dark Lord  found his craving for gaming slightly satiated... for now and even started humming his favourite Hobbit song .." there is a Inn a merry old Inn....."


This is a multi tasking test for Windows 8 on the Lenovo X200T , here we play 2 games with 0 install at the same time whilst messing with Windows 8 Metro Apps . Using pen and touch. Welcome to the cloud... and what are you waiting for you could have been playing both games and getting some work done on your Windows 8 tablet pc .

Dead Rising 2 is a great sequel to the original Xbox 360 classic , and Lord Of the Rings War In the North is really a must have for anyone who likes giant Eagles , and can pronounce Dunedain correctly with a straight face or can spell it correctly... it acutally comes alive when you play multiplayer , with 2 comrades in tow who usually tend to run off to the other end of the map or take on a boss without waiting for you , it is hilarious fun when they call out for help but you are too far off to help them or knee deep in orc blood ...Co op really makes this game  something different to every other action RPG , so if you have a friend or two and they are partial to their Tolkien this is going to be an excellent journey into part of the Lord of Rings saga that even the books only touch on , and did I mention the giant Eagles ? The onlive version also removes the pesky need for installing , or upgrading hardware .

Compare , having to download  11gb of Battlefield 3 , and not get it working , download 12 gb and a 5gb patch for Skyrim and all the GPU hassles both have had since launch with the way you will instantly click on Assassin`s Creed Revelations and be playing it in more detail  and less hassle on an Atom powered tablet than you are currently  doing so struggling to play Battlefield 3 and Skyrim for a couple of hours without it crashing on your "gaming" PC , after several hours spent every day looking for solutions in the game forums ...


The cloud is awesome ,it is here now , and you have no excuse ... unless you want to add yet another monster pc download , or console killing game to the 2011 list of games that  developers and gamers spend longer fixing than playing.

Using Windows 8 handwriting recognition to check out Onlive`s Cyber Monday deals

Onlive is the awesome cloud based gaming service that let`s you play Assassin`s Creed Revelations or Batman Arkham City faster than your gaming rig on your netbook ! or tv!
