I am always complaining about games launching with annoying special editions , this is simply an awesome deal for all Batfans , in fact there are now numerous options for collectors editions , limited editions , editions with comics , editions with Robin and on onlive an edition of Batman Arkham Asylum that comes with a free console ! 


So it would seem the Dynamic Duo have all their bases covered ,   but Riddle me this .. which version do I go for ? By the time I choose there will a GOTYR on Steam going for £14.95 and I will be even more confused ...arrghhhhhhh!

Batman Arkham City rave reviews unmask Catwoman DLC ...some will pay for and others will wait to download but the wise will just click and play

Another reason to own the Onlive version of Batman Arkham Asylum,   probably the game of the year so far .. starring Batman ... is the fact that you will never have to wait for DLC  downloads to complete  , just shove that ancient 360 or PS3 aside , set up the tiny console , or power up that netbook and click on and play , your game is there faster than downloading a video of a speeding bullet ....as fast as the little dog running circles around the big dog in that youtube video... you get the metaphor ..well Scooby and Shaggy would I am sure...


Yes a funny thing is going to happen to thegameveda , having preordered Batman Arkham Asylum the onlive version , it is going to be tres cool to click on the game and play,  as onlive promises no 20gb install or scratched dvds or blurays for my gaming generation! If your Internet connections too slow well pack your bags and we can all move to South Korea , or Japan ... wonder if they have onlive out there ...doh...!


In an age where the Unreal Engine can run in Flash , it is high time developers devoted as much thought to how their games are installed , patched and delivered . Theoretically Batman Arkham CIty could run in a browser through Flash , as could any recent Unreal Engine based game .... 


The coolest thing about Rocksteady is that they allowed their AAA game to release through the magic of onlive , oh and it kills the used game lost sales debate dead too , there is nothing to resell , and 1 yr from now the game will be cheaper than used retail , eg Bordlerlands can be had for £1.75 on onlive this weekend , and the profit from that goes back to Rocksteady , rather than 100% going to a retailer  after first depriving some poor kid of one of their favourite games in order to resell it ... But retailers fret not , though it is time to adapt or die.


What we really need is synergy , the publishers of Deus Ex in the USA attempted this , including physical , steam key and onlive key versions of the game in one retail box. Now if you could pull that off again without some dodgy retail chain antics then you would make a lot of fans for your games . 


Take me I would have the Steam version to play on a gaming rig maxed out over 5120 by 1600 or more . With cloud based saves I could then continue playing on a tablet or tv using Onlive , and all parties would benefit , the retail chain , Steam and Onlive ....synergy .... as they say ...

Batman The Dark Knight Rises justifies your new iPad and Steam knocks 81% off the entire Batman franchise

Gameloft are legends at ap(p)ing major franchises , be it Modern Warfare or even Crysis  they have a mobile facsimile .. as players of   Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation  and N.O.V.A. 3 - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance  can attest and steadily they have been getting better with The Dark Knight Rises ™  they succeed in giving us the finest looking,Retina display using and core gamer pleasing mobile  game so far .. in an instant justifying your new iPad purchase, this is easily a game that would sell for £20 to £30 on a couple of dedicated old skool hand helds I could mention. The only flaw in this seminal moment in mobile gaming surpassing traditional console gaming, both in terms of price and technical prowess is the fact that playing the game reveals the entire plot of the film ... there is a free mode once you complete it but go watch the film before you play what is the finest mobile/tablet game in existence , a core game you are going to want to play and not just show off ala the  beautiful slide show that is Infinity Blade II

Not to be outdone the boy wonders at Steam are finishing off their sale with 81% off the entire Batman franchise , or at least the entire modern PC Batman franchise ... including Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY , Batman Arkham City , Monolith's folly that is Gotham City  Impostors and all the DLC you need ... remember .. chicks dig DLC...

Asymmetric Multi Cloud gaming : Crossing Splashtop THD on Android with Onlive PC streams to play everything everywhere

You are used to streaming your music or films every where on any device , but what about your far more expensive PC games collection .. would it not be great to take that with you without having to reinstall or risk mocca chocca latte death of your expensive gaming laptop or newly mortgaged Apple device  at your favourite tax evading coffee emporium? Would you not like to exploit the power of  that 10K gaming rig you have currently doing torrent duty whilst you are (rarely) out and about in the sun or cold cruel winter fog ....?

Well thanks to the cloud you now can, thanks to what I likes to call Asymmetric Multi Cloud gaming

Asymmetric because we are going to use a tiny cheap low cost £159  (but excellent  ) device the Google Nexus 7  to play AAA games from a larger more expensive laptop and from even more powerful gaming servers..

Multi Cloud because  we are going to use said Laptop to play AAA games with 0 install time ,at speeds and detail impossible for it using  the onlive cloud service . Then we are going to use Splashtop THD cloud streaming service to provide a control overlay and beam the onlive games  running on  PC ( which have no touch controls in onlive as of yet) to the Google Nexus 7 in the palm of our hands and play them anywhere...

Why use one cloud when you can use two ?! I love cloud gaming  , it is the reason I picked up my first Android tablet this year , the awesome Google Nexus 7 which would allow me to mess with Splashtop THD and onlive .  The former, which  has only recently been activated for the Nexus 7 , allows you to stream AND play ( not just watch or broadcast) any PC game from your gaming PC of choice.

The Nexus 7, is a beautiful tablet to game on, primarily because of the insanely cheap price, but also because of that screen ratio, the 1280 by 800 res games just look amazing on it when streamed and it has the perfect weight and balance take a look see below 

First lets check out how simply playing games directly using Splashtop THD from my Lenovo X220T works out.. in these tests my laptop is 3 floors away from the Google Nexus 7 ...

Now all of these examples actually use the cpu and gpu grunt of your laptop or PC/Apple thing ..there is a far better way of playing though and that is by crossing Splashtop THD and onlive streams :  I love the idea of onlive , it is the reason I bought my Google Nexus 7 the first Android tablet or device I have owned. The promise of full PC gaming anywhere is pretty is awesome ,but onlive have been slow to introduce touch controls for tablets with only LA Noire really attempting to wow tablet cloud gaming fans. And then it came to me as my hardware struggled to stream and run Planetside 2 in the above example ...why not Splastop THD stream an onlive  stream ? Doing so means your PC uses very little resources, Splashtop THD allows you to create a touch control layout for all the games you still do not have them for on onlive ..and these are the results: All these games were only playable with external joypads and mice etc but the dream of every cloud gamer is to have optimised touch controls as good as the real thing ...dream I said! Splashtop THD puts on the bus and sets us on that road ..and I am firmly confident I will make it there with you too.. unless the Jokers henchmen get me again :

I can see a time in the very near future where developers optimise their games for cloud and streaming play , as tablets and phones continue to dominate even if they are eventually Windows 8 Pro tablets , you as a power user or even casual will not want to waste the power of your device playing AAA games or install /download terabytes of your Steam collection on each device .. and if Steam want to move our gaming collections they will have to incorporate the option to stream games into their services or Gabe sorry dude you will have missed the Big Picture ...which is actually a small picture and is asymmetric , multi cloud and right here in the palm of my cold Google Nexus 7 holding hands...
