Out of all the sales purchases I have made this holiday season across all platforms pc console and iOS/iPad , in fact out of the gazillions  of iPad apps that I have come across Space Invaders Infinity Gene - TAITO Corporation   is THE standout.

The name belies the underlying depth of this top down evolving shooter . This is no mere Space Invaders update , no , this ever evolving sh`mup is EVERY sh`mup ever made rolled into one , its decades worth of experience in the genre that TAITO Corporation own , with beautiful minimalist retro graphics , moving at speeds that will spark your dormant adolescent synapses back to life .

Every great Taito shooter also comes with , something very special , and if you ever heard the wailing banshee call of an approaching boss in a Darius game , you know what I am talking about : a Zuntata sound track .

On PSN and Xbox live the game is unmissable , old skool , however on the iPad and iPhone it is perfected , the oblong 9.7 inch frame is the perfect rectangle for a vertical shooter , and the control scheme is sublime , using touch to move your ship all over the screen in an instant , its almost Firefox like in execution !

The ever evolving stages and game play , minimalist graphics , trip like nature and rock solid difficulty , coming from the parent company of the King of games and a ridiculously cheap price at the moment make this the finest game on the app store .  Truly different to playing with a pad , in fact this is one of the first iPad games whose control scheme using touch significantly improves and alters the game play over its console counter parts.
