T`is the season of silly sales , and where all true gamers are busy searching for bargains , too busy to actually play anything so another sale post this time  Sid Meier's Civilization V


Maybe the games are too short these days that is why buying them is more fun than playing many of them , but Civ 5 should last you till Civ6 ....at least

40 % off Civ V is not that great , considering the retail versions can be had for less or the same , without the sands of time ticking away before the price rises again . But it is hard to beat the convenience of Steam so if you need it go get it

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Complete for £3.80 and yes it has Alien Crossfire too!

thegameveda feels the need the need for Sid .. so here is the finest Meier creation ever , including the very rare Alien Crossfire Expansion it is of course Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Complete for a ridiculously cheap price ,  from £1.74 (although I would check with the seller to make sure it has crossfire and is not just the white label release of the original .) .....on the other hand for collectors there is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Complete original big box version  , so £129.99 or £1.74 , take your pick!

Told you to hold off buying it from the last Steam sale , here it is for the very civilized price of £13.99  .But hurry before your actual rulers raise your taxes , cut your job, or send armies off to fight endless wars that bankrupt us and end Civilization as we know it . If only politicians played a little more  Sid Meier's Civilization on their laptops once in a while .... and less  Global Thermonuclear  War on their WOPRs ....

Playing Sid Meier`s Pirates with touch on the NVIDIA Ion Intel Atom powered joojoo tablet

There be pirates everywhere these days , on tv at the movies and in our games  , and after our games as the Sony Hack be provin`


But the most fun with Pirates , in video game form , apart from the adventures of Guybrush , lies in Sid Meier`s Pirates .... and me hearties , let me tell ye the most fun with Sid Meier`s Pirates be on a Windows 7 tablet playing the scurvy game with touch . 


And playing with touch is perfect , as Sid Meier and Firaxis crafted such a beautiful interface and control scheme ye can dance a jig with the guvnors daughter , with the deftest of ease as I will show ye in the video below .  Combat , and all the other options are in a 9 key box on the bottom right , and for once these buttons are big enough to click . 


The ability to play with touch also makes every one of those quicktime combat and dance routines easier , you no longer have to hunt the flashing key , you just touch it on screen as soon as it lights up, pulling governors daughters has never been so easy , and finally I am able to buckle my swash with the best pirates out there as combat too has just become a whole lot more intuitive . 

It goes without saying that the Ion powered Joojoo is an awesome full Windows games machine . And touch is breathing new life into many of my old and new games ...  


Oh and Alpha Centauri works too ! When I stop playing and have time to film it ye shall see me hearties ..


Lately the web is full of rumblings , nVidia are none too happy about Android tablet sales , the thing is Apple have that arena cornered , where nVidia could have cleaned up is by giving people something Apple cannot or will not for the foreseeable future , I am talking about the sort of tablet that you see running this steam game , nVidia and Intel should concentrate on morphing laptops to tablets , full OS tablets , just take a look at what a humble Intel Atom powered nVidia ION GPU Windows 7 Ultimate tablet can do. Instead of trying to compete with Apple , they should have mass produced Windows 7 tablets , I speak a someone who has used 3 Windows 7 tablets , two of them dual screen for a year now .  After all when Apple created the iPAd they did not follow any one , it seems Android tabs are doomed to always be slightly behind , the hardware they run is wasted on Android when it could heartily run a full Windows 7 OS , should nVidia wish to support it. The freedom you get with a full OS tablet is unmatched .. so wake up NVIDIA and AMD and get to it ... before Apple corners the full OS tablet market too .. yay dual screen Mac Air Tablets ahoy....

Civilization V is 66 % off on Steam this weekend : Warning! Not for politicians who need to solve the real worlds problems!

 did someone say default ? fetch my grandfathers axe ... 

Friends , Ancient Babylonians and turn based strategy fans get ready to click that mouse into oblivion , with the life changing Sid Meier classic Civ V available at a ridiculous price ...  Any politicians out there please avoid this game , we need you working to prevent the end of our civilization and not locked into the latest dose of deliciously addictive turn based gameplay served up by the genius of Mr Sid Meier and Firaxis... 


Then again may be our politicians could learn a thing or three from this games diplomacy, I mean if you can manage to placate Alexander the Great , or Napoleon surely Republicans , Democrats , and various modern day failing European states cannot be too problematic ... 


 get on over to Steam now and join the fun ... I need to test this out on some Windows tablets !


traditionalists can still go for the retail version although Steam is now far cheaper than retail and in Korea at least an almost instant download .....

Lenovo X220 T Tablet test no. 5 Sid Meier`s Civilization V and Alpha Centauri played with pen and touch

And so you bought Civ V last weekend ... you are having big fun being a virtual megalomaniac .. but all that mouse clicking is a drag and so mid 80s in an Apple Lisa kind of way ...  well ok thegameveda finds all that mouse clicking or trackpad sliding totally square ... and I don`t care if it is made out of shiny new glass and you can do three finger swipes ... no.... no way does thegameveda put any faith in that hokey cokey mouse or track pad clicking ... give me a good pen and multitouch every time .. 


So here are two Sid Meier classics one old and one new , with tests of how you could control them using multitouch and pen input .  The pen input on the Lenovo X220T really adds finesse to touch control , even when Apple eventually move to a full OSX Lion touch Mac Air a pen may prove mightier than a 3 fingered swipe ( I can dream... you should see me in Apple Temples touching the screens of all the Macbook Pros and Airs ... not so subtly suggesting wouldn't it be cool if we had the touch control of an iPad on the screen or dual screen of a Mac Air.....who knows maybe Steve is watching from his dormant volcano secret base)

Master of Orion,Silver,Outcast, Pirates Plus,Colonisation for $2.39 each

There is some serious gaming booty to be plundered at GOG this weekend. The wonder that is Master Of Magic just 18 Mb in size and deeper than most 30 gig installs theses days . The seminal Master of Orion 1 and 2 , the awe inspiring Outcast , Final Fantasy fan favourite Silver and two Sid Meier Classics the original Pirates and Colonisation.. not forgetting Total Annihilation. 

Many PC games of this era adopted this washed out oil painting look for their stills gotta love that 256 colour magic 

Gaming treasures  which you can plunder for just $2.39 each and incidentally run on iDOS on your new iPad or phone or Google Nexus 7 ..which is what I am about to go off and do ... They all work mighty fine on Windows 8 too by the way !
