Developed by legendary Russian coders Elemental Games , remember when you are playing one of the finest PC games ever , we have Mrs Gorbachov and Reagan to thank for ending the cold war , not our planet and thus making it possible for our Russian cousins to partake in the high art of PC game coding and for us to eventually  experience the likes of Space Rangers 1 and 2.   


What I love about these games , is that the narrative is not the star , the game is , these games have been designed with some one saying wouldn`t it be cool to have a top down space trading turn based  adventure rpg , then throw in some 3d planet based management , ship development etc and a massive playing area ... it is completely devoid of the serious nature of Egosofts X Series and the high moral posturing of Bioware's recent uber franchises . Whether this is due to lack of budget or something lost in translation from Russian to English I care not... These are great games first and foremost , not  media events that recent AAA PC and console games have become. So check them out you know you want a Zelda / top down Elite /Master of Orion/Space Rogue experience ..

Free stuff to play is always awesome , and especially so when you consider GOG  includes two rare and highly sought after classics , Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire and Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2 : Martian Dreams free!

Master of Orion,Silver,Outcast, Pirates Plus,Colonisation for $2.39 each

There is some serious gaming booty to be plundered at GOG this weekend. The wonder that is Master Of Magic just 18 Mb in size and deeper than most 30 gig installs theses days . The seminal Master of Orion 1 and 2 , the awe inspiring Outcast , Final Fantasy fan favourite Silver and two Sid Meier Classics the original Pirates and Colonisation.. not forgetting Total Annihilation. 

Many PC games of this era adopted this washed out oil painting look for their stills gotta love that 256 colour magic

You could be playing: Retro City Rampage...spending all your life livin in a retro gangsta paradise !

There was I waxing lyrical about the indie gaming evolution tsunami taking down the  AAA sequels to lasts years sequel releases from the usual suspects. When out of nowhere I come across this gem of a game called RetroCityRampage, releasing today* on Steam, PSN, PS Vita and coming soon to Xbox Live and Wii Ware... ( and who knows even iOS and Android eventually) : If you can watch the following video without buying the game then go back to Fifa and COD duties... Everyone else, this is is what I mean re independent game developers PWNING 2012. I am looking forward to playing X COM Enemy   Unknown and Dishonored this week, but I am going absolutely Donkey Kong over waiting for my RetroCityRampage key to be delivered ... cannot wait to try out the virtual boy section on a ST1080 hmd and the chiptune muzak is to die for .. brings back memories of the 80s when I lived with my pet alligator on my go faster boat ..and you could build Kelly Lebroc with a Memotech MTX512 and some teen age angst...

and here is a little game play at 1920 by 1200 using an Intel HD3000 Windows 8 Lenovo X220T .. at the moment I cannot stop smiling ...so serious game play to follow ....
