This includes the obvious  Myst Riven and URU , but also video games milestones such as  Cosmic Osmo and the Worlds beyond the Mackeral and The Manhole  , which many a mac fan used to tease poor pc dos owners with , these were some of the first games to use a mouse ,  introducing the world to the concept of hypertext links , and the concept of point and click adventuring  running parallel to and predating many of the great Lucasfilm and Sierra point and click classics. Myst  also was the game that finally forced people to wake up to new fangled CDROM games . 


For all you  button pushing Lost fans  , Myst and Riven have stories and worlds far more esoteric than Lost  , and  wait till you get a load of the buttons you can push to operate strange contraptions that appear to do nothing at all!   You can also see the puzzles , locales , duplicitous characters, and the narrative flow and reveal in the  Myst series as influences on Lost.


Who knows it might even make you gain a deeper understanding of what on earth was going on!

Indiana Jones And The Fate of Atlantis + The Infernal Machine + The Emperors Tomb

Join the younger of the Jones boys in some classic pc gaming.You wont find a better use of whips in videogames this side of the Castlevania series. But I jest ,these games come from game designing genii including Hal Barwood ,who in Fate Of Atlantis gave us the yardstick to judge all  point and click adventures by,and there is none better.Shame then that we were so busy following Lara`s posterior around that the series developers and subsequent sequels did so as well.The  Barwood designed Infernal Machine sees Indie battling the Commies [poor subs for the Ultimate villains -British Shakespearean thesp voiced Nazis]
and held it`s own against the corresponding Croft game of the time.Losing much of the humour charm and obscure puzzle solving that can only be done with point and click game design ,you know the kind of puzzle that requires combining a banana with a laxative to remove a large gorilla that happens to be blocking your path,after first stealing the banana from  a prison guard creating a diversion by using the jumbo sized fluffy toy on the toilet and flooding the whole building ,not forgetting to use the spanner on the broken flush handle after turning on the water supply by combining the........well you Dig by now... or your`e doomed never to solve that puzzle and that sweet pain is the ultimate sign  you are playing a truly great point and click classic.The talented coders from The Collective gave us the Emperors Tomb, and with their experience with Buffy and Star Trek DS9 the Fallen , managed to finally imbue the Jones trademark fisticuffs,gunplay,and finally whip play ,if there is such a term .

A better franchise to follow for the next great Indiana Jones game would be the  puzzle gaming mystery solving mechanics of the Professor Layton series , maybe George should give Level 5 a call.

Toshiba Libretto W100 playing Monkey Island 2 on Steam whilst checking out the reviews on Metacritic

More fun and games with the Toshiba Libretto W100 . Here we see some more brief multitasking tests , playing Monkey Island 2 Special Edition on Steam , whilst checking out the Metacritic scores for the game , to reassure myself the game is as great a classic as I remember.... naturally great minds think alike and the critics agree with me that the game is awesome ...although I could probably quote it line for line having played through every version going... but hey this is about multitasking on a full Windows 7 , 62gb ssd  , dual multi touch screen wonder tablet pc  so on with the videos.... The second video shows what happens in the vertical orientation , as many have asked ... now many can see that yes you can hold it as a book [ with your right hand burning....hint hold it with your left from the spine ! ] and your game will run in one screen whilst you peruse the web on t`other!

Point and Click will never die part 1 : thegameveda Sam and Max vs Maestro Tim Shafer tablet mashup

Continuing my quiet (vewy quiet)  Windows Tablet rebellion :

It's past the Witching hour , and my thoughts turn to point and clickery  , within seconds my joojoo (of course) is in portrait orientation , I am playing Sam and Max Hit the road, the talkie version  , typing with an on screen keyboard and can worship at the altar of Double Fine as my hero and yours , Tim Shafer extols furry logic sermons from an Internet explorer 9 window in the bottom third of the screen. 

check out the video and see how powerful a Windows 7 atom powered tablet is . This people is about gaming tradition and heritage , there are 3 decades worth of gaming culture , none of which will survive if we all suddenly switch to closed phone os tablets. 

 This is quite a fun multitasking test , so much in fact it gets me thinking abut other possible mashups.....

Point and Click will never die part 2.0: thegameveda Maniac Mansion vs Police and Space Quest

Point and click has been kept alive by the likes of SCUMMVM , and SARIEN.net , the latter being acknowledged and supported by the new copyright owners of Sierras back catalogue and the former allowed by great coders like Revolution to host their original classics .  The internet as many an overthrown despot will tell you is a pretty powerful thing ,so although retails stores ignored this genre , fans have continued their point and click quests. 


This test shows Scummvm pairing off against Sarien.net . Here I am playing both Maniac Mansion from within Day of The Tentacle , at the same time as messing around  in Police Quest , and Space Quest , you may have picked up on me using the Police Quest Dude to dance to the Maniac Mansion theme tune....

These are revered games , that I can play them on a tablet pc instantly is quite amazing  , just have your tablet run a full OS , Flash , Java , and full browsers , it does doesn't it ?.... and look Ma no Apps!

Point and Click will never die part quattro : Day of the Tentacle vs Space/Police/Kings Quest/TheBlack Couldron & The Hobbit!

Friends , Romans and Tentacles here is a multitasking Joojoo tablet pc  point and click test running Scummvm to play Day Of The Tentacle , the talkie version ,whilst playing Space Quest , Police Quest and Kings Quest and The Black Couldron! at the same time on the same screen using Internet Explorer 9 and the excellent Sarien.net , and after all that playing the Melbourne House ZX Spectrum classic The Hobbit in the Java based Hob! again in an IE9 browser whilst continuing to play DOTT ...with touch ... and the onscreen keyboard ( to better simulate the ZX Spectrum chicklet (no Steve did not invent it) keyboard.... All you need is a tablet that runs Windows 7....

Don't take money don't take fame don't need no credit card to r...play Back To The Future episode 1

There I was having downloaded Telltales Back To The Future first episode , on my PC and PS3 , thinking this would be just a rehash of the movies , but no ,this is intriguing , the voice overs are eerily reminiscent of the original film cast , and in many cases are the original cast. This game is simply fascinating, to any and all Back to The Future fans , like  a great way to go visit with some childhood movie friends/heroes , just a shame the interactive movie genre took 20 odd years to get it's groove on. 


What are you waiting for rev your browser up to 88 mph and prepare to go Back to The Future , from your PS3 or PC .... after all it might just change your life...that's the power of...
