Apple`s iCloud and Google`s cloud services inevitably to fall to hackers like PSN ?

The answer is yes , it is just a matter of time .

Hackers continue to exploit the Cloud's silver lining
As 77 million at risk PSN users can testify , and some are about to in court , the so called cloud model of software and media distribution is not as divinely functional and beneficial as it first seemed. True we never lose a game save , or touch physical media , we click on a button and download/stream apps , games and media in seconds ,  unfortunately it seems that all hackers have to do is click on a button and download our personal details , phone numbers , dobs , emails etc , and of course our credit card details . The true enemy of the cloud is weak security , Sony recently admitted on its official spiel site , that none of our personal data is encrypted , now that data is enough to register for new credit cards alone , open accounts for games and other services  , even before you consider that your credit card details which they claim were encrypted ( what strength is any one's guess) are also in the hackers possession.

Re Apple and Google upcoming cloud services  : There is even more potential danger as these services are going to hold more data and details than PSN  .And if you thought PSN was a juicy target for hackers , you know biting the Apple iCloud is going to prove irresistible to hackers. What we have here is possibly the final limitation of the growth of services like iTunes  and therefore iCloud  and the rebirth of physical media , or at least a  personal detail free physical key that is sold at retail to unlock and enable cloud based  media consumption which would otherwise be at risk from hackers . Like a smart car key , after all you do not expose your personal details every time you open a car door , why do you need to do so for online content when you could use a physical key equivalent ? Last year we all changed passwords and removed credit card details from iTunes , remember? What if you had a key to log on to your iPad instead of storing personal details online which is always going to be a target for hackers?

Cloud me
Obligatory dependency on  online cloud services is increasing at an exponential rate , you may have games on Steam , games on PSN and Xbox Live , your music from iTunes , some docs on Google docs or soon Office 365 ..   cloud based  services  hold far more of your personal data and credit card information , far more in fact than you would allow a government to hold online or manage. And if you do not trust your government to handle all that data what are  you doing handing it over in  at best a weakly encrypted single password protected form or at worst totally unencrypted (PSN personal data) form to a media company ? All cloud based services are going to be the no. 1 target for hackers and the current PSN debacle will be nothing compared to what can and will happen on a global scale .

Nations will fall
77 million PSN users already feel the burn. 77 million is more than the population of most 1st world countries including Great Britain . The hacker who did this could take down an entire country or countries , the issue is thus not the loss of Sony's earnings . Pandoras box is now open and everyone  , companies , governments and even Elliot Ness is  aware that global cyber warfare is now very real and impacting numbers on an World War scale .There is no physical weapon that could stop 77 million people around the world from doing something , but there is now clearly an online equivalent in the form of a simple hack .Has the world been introduced to a new form of warfare?  Is a hacker or the Sony hacker the ultimate weapon of mass destruction? The kind that we laughed at about when reading the poetic prose in Count Zero and other William Gibson prophecies in the 90's . Kind of like when we laughed at Oliver Stone`s Gordan Gekko in the 80s  , before the bankers tried to end Western civilization a couple of years ago....(again)

The Wild Wild Web
For so  many reasons it is vital  any company seeking to use a cloud based storage model for it's business including Apple , Google and Amazon ,Sony and Microsoft  needs to be vetted  by international  governmental Internet security tests , the data stored using these services , can if mishandled take down not only companies , inconvenience customers , it can and will also take down countries .

There should be a data protection sentinel , the  equivalent of the IAEA, an international body that inspects and therefore pre-empts data theft from soft target media  companies who now manage more data than governments ,before and during the lifetime of that Internet/cloud based business  , because the Sony PSN hack is not a national event , it is the first grand Global data theft disaster , the largest media take down by a hacker in the history of e commerce . The largest theft of credit card and personal details in the history of hacking ... fact ? it does not have to be .. it is the threat that harms, with the potential to take down a company like Sony in a week.

Thus global companies and governments can no longer view the Internet as  a simple media retail  device , it needs safeguards , vigilance and protection , in short the best option for Sony , Apple , Amazon et al is to seek a new Sheriff  for the Wild Wild Web in which they ply their snake oil . Governments need to be vigilant sentinels , because the hack to fear is not the PSN one , that scored 77 million , there are hackers out there now who want to score 1 Billion .Write their name in history and rewrite our history at the same time , when this happens the world as we know it will truly stop turning. The question is which will it be initiated on  Apple , Google , Microsoft ,or Sony clouds .

The writing is on the wall people get your governments to take note , and force these Internet giants to face up to their security responsibilities .

check out the genius of Harold Lloyd , the Keystone Cops , and Mel Brooks if you missed the riffs , and especially if you are a CEO in charge of a cloud based business model that is in danger of going PSN on you .... well you have to laugh don't you ?
