Left 4 Dead Console owners Sacfrice their dollars whilst PC and Mac Owners download free dlc and their free online comics

Left 4 Dead is now ridiculously cheap on Steam

Left 4 Dead is the online zombie multiplayer survival horror game that our Japanese cousins would have killed to make..The online components of the otherwise fine Res Evil and Dead Rising series are at best a parody of the insane levels of chaos you can achieve in Left 4 Dead . And one of the great reasons for this is the great respect  that it`s developers Valve show their fans , hands up if you criticized the sequel and got flown to see Gabe? You see they love pc gamers , and also now mac gamers .That is why the games are a bargain on Steam right now , and even if you did pay full price all that time ago , you know the latest DLC the Sacrifice is FREE , and you can read all 4 parts of the THE SACRIFICE comic whilst you wait ... However console owners thank your draconian Xbox Live model for the charges and thank you for the sacrifice  of paying for our pc games development....

Holy cloud storage Batman !STEAM IS 30 .... MILLION !

This weekend when you are  getting Batman Arkham Asylum games of the year edition for 66% off take a moment to consider how far Steam has come.

For since the dawn of DOS it has been said pc gaming was dying , but that`'s a velvet lie and pc gamers know it . 30 million of us that is 3 times the Warcraft nation  , are registered ,gaming on and buying from Steam . Congratulations to Valve , Gabe and the gang.

You cannot beat Steam for content delivery , sales and servers , and ALL OF THIS WITHOUT A MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEE Mr Microsoft/Sony accountant!

The greatest achievement of Steam is the kudos now associated with  people actually buying games  .  In no uncertain terms Valve and Steam have done more to tackle piracy through the respect they have earned from their gamer population,  than any of the futile Draconian copy protection system that publishers have attempted or the "authorities" attempts to chase down the peer2peer upstarts.

In 2010 it is juster cooler to own your games , than pirate them , Valve and Steam made this happen .Their focus is not just on major publishers and releases many real world examples exist of independent coders that have been saved through publishing on Steam .

Every core gamer , wants to have the Steam version of a game , yes the wiser ones may wait till Christmas and seasonal sales , but the Steam version is the one to own.

Oh and regarding the myth that PC gaming is in decline , I think if you check with Sony Microsoft and Nintendo accountants , they will confirm that console gaming has been in decline since the original next gen consoles were release in 1995/6 .

Digital content delivery , cloud storage , these are things Valve foresaw BEFORE the technology , was in our hands to exploit them , so hats off again to Valve.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the first Steam run console games , like Portal 2 hit , and if this finally shakes up PSN and XBox Live from their paid for , limited download number [5 for PSN] ,locked to one console/machine outdated models.

The PC is ever evolving , even Steve likes Valve so much he allowed Steam in our Macintels , as such PC gaming and Steam will always prosper and adapt , leaving consoles to mop up the casuals , who themselves are just really future pc gamers and Steam fans like us now aren't they ?

Portal 2 played on 3 Windows 7 tablets the dual screen Toshiba Libretto W100 and Acer Iconia and i7 powered Lenovo X220t

Portal 2 is the game of the year ..so far.. so today recovering from Steam`s summer camp thegameveda decided to devote half an hour or so playing the proverbial mouse in the maze.. not on my gaming rig but across 3 different Windows 7 tablets . You can see how the Source engine scales down and up from an i3 to i5 and i7 cpu and their accompanying Intel gpus .. you can also see my decaying grey matter spark into action as I learn how to solve the puzzles which your average lab rat probably does in its drug induced sleep , plus they get more cheese ...

oh and Portal 2 is pretty sharp on the Ion powered joojoo too.. more on that later 4 tablets in one gaming session is more than my prescription allows.......

Download Portal from Steam free

Solving the Ultimate Portal Puzzle : why is it free?

There have been many legal ways of getting Portal free since it`s launch , you bought the Orange box ..follow me... come ...follow me ....got my . erhmm  .... ,you purchased an nVidia GPU  ,etc  . The initial purpose of Portal was to be a sweetener , but the game and concept are so awesome it easily came to overshadow the hardware and software it was supposed to entice you into buying . Portal as a brand now has more cross platform kudos than the rest of the Orange box Valve titles  put together.

So many years later we find Valve releasing it free to download separately from here , what are you waiting for is the phrase that comes to mind , also notice the download page has the rest of the Orange Box and Valve Complete Pack to entice you ... old habits die hard at Valve ....

Nothing .....is actually free .....Puzzle solved ....move on to the next room

Did Gabe Newel just buy onlive for a $1 ? Is Steam about to hit the cloud?

I have often commented on my hopes that Steam and onlive would merge , specifically that our hero Gabe N would buy onlive. And so it has come to pass that a mystery investor has bought onlive rescuing it from Steve Pearlman..errh I mean administration.

The web and usual suspects are spreading rumour and speculation to earn their daily bread so I thought I would hop on the rumour cloud and ask did Valve and Steam head and general all round industry visionary Gabe Newel just buy onlive and if not why not ? Just imagine the power of onlive and Steam combined , knowing my luck though it was probably Julian Assange who has plenty of his own servers and not being able to get out much at this time has much need for the stress relief instant cloud gaming through onlive can provide.

More rumours when I can think of them...

Meanwhile onlive fans remember you can get two free games this weekend SpaceChem and Space Pirates and Zombies.

There is no way onlive can go down , unless Gabe or Julian now mothball it to kill the competition..

And this just in Sony HQ reports raging executives running through the building screaming why did we why did we spend 384 million on gaikai when onlive was going for a $1?Hats off to Mr Perry who's from over here but doing rather nicely over there......

You could be playing: Black Mesa: free awesome and here to make you feel the Source!

Every hip cat digs that Black Mesa is dope and now is the time ,now is the time to stop polishing those sneakers with your girl/boy friend`s tooth brush, put down your FIFA playin joypad and git with the awesome and totally free Black Mesa Mod for Half Life.

For this righteous game is what you should be playin` right now out of R E S P E C ..T for the Black Mesa Mod Team ..

And here my peoples is a little of the game play running on Intel HD3000 powered Lenovo X220T at 1024 by 768 ..for those who just have to know these details ... I left out the opening, which your FIFA playing casual gamers may not be down with, the opening of Half Life is one of THE greatest game opening sequences of all time.

As for the game, it is a lot more scary than I remember and still the finest PC FPS ever made.

The great FPS games are those that are as austere as a Tory government with minimal ammo and health made available just as you are about to gasp your last breath after facing off against devilish AI enemies or some one eyed purple people eater. The way to play this game is to set it at the hardest play setting, then take risks , take the hits and challenge yourself to make it to the next health or power charge or ammo pack ...like you do with the old Doom .. this FIFA and Call Of Duty fans is the Zone for FPS games , very few have it but those that do from the original Doom, Half Life to Goldeneye ... well they are amongst the greatest games ever made and Black Mesa is a totally awesomely free update of one the finest gaming experiences ever made..
