Why don`t games have daylight redcarpet premieres like films?

On the eve of one of the decades biggest media launches ,Starcraft 2 , why don`t we have a daylight redcarpet premiere as the lesser medium of movies , many of whom will earn less than Starcraft 2 this summer ,  Mr Cruise I am talkin bout chu , all have ? 


Why are games launches still stuck in the  survival horror  midnight opening purchase at the local hasbeen music chainstore that has jumped on the games retail bandwagon after falling sales overcharging people for media that is now largely available free and I mean legally ?


The games industry is always looking for ways to connect a new audience to its products , well how about a simple old fashioned red carpet day time premier !


If anything it could shake a few movie moguls into making some decent summer films now that they have to compete for the redcarpet with games launches !


the hook is someone realising that you need this to happen outside the Nerdfests like Comic Con , and actually happen somewhere like London's Leicester Square , or just get an open air  arena and rock it out with your game launch [ not with flame throwing uni cycle riding circus performers!] 


oh and we will need a game designers equivalent of the Rat Pack to add some cool to the proceedings

Why we joojoo : because you can do stuff like play Starcraft 2 on it !

The joojoo as you know is the Millenium Falcon of Tablets, on a bad day making the Kessel run your machine will given in after a couple of hours , but have your scruffy looking nerf herding friends make enough special modifications and you can make it do things that no other Imperial Tablet  can do one such example is this dear chap playing the FULL STARCRAFT 2 release  , I seem to remember seeing some Dave Perry mockups about streaming Blizzard games to the iPad but this is a game running natively ,running now .. check it out and you will see in the age of iPad and the rest why we still joojoo:

Acer Iconia dual screen multi tasking tests Starcraft 2 vs Starcraft 2 and R.U.S.E vs Metacrtic

Day 2 of thegameveda Acer Iconia review . And it is time to push those 2 touch screens and the hardware behind them with that stalwart of games not made for tablets but reviewed by everyone anyway : Starcraft 2 .


Imagine you have just discovered a company called Blizzard and the worlds largest Korean youth mind control franchise ( after the good Reverand that is... )  known as  Starcraft 2 . You want to play , but need to know also how the mind stuff works . You need to go to the website , but you need to play as well . 


In steps the Acer Iconia , and says yes you can.. This is a stress test for the Iconia take a look at the speed of the browser in the second screen , and the game playing in the top screen , now you can keep up with your mind control whilst you surf the cause of it... 

The iconia isn't even stressed by this test  , the top screen is ice cold , whilst the lower one is not even warm . Just goes to show when it comes to tablets on paper the hardware may not stack up , but when it all comes together it shines  , just ask Steve he pulled the same trick with our iPads too... 


And for  our  second test  how about Steam and Metacrtic vs R.U.S.E

Breaking in the Lenovo X220 tablet with Starcraft 2 ...

My latest tablet folly the Lenovo X220T has just arrived , an i7 version that took over a month to reach me , could it be the ultimate combination of tablet and laptop? that will have to wait as  Starcraft 2 needs to be tested with pen and touch control... 

The pen as others have noted before me does not need to touch the screen to scroll it , or icons and objects , and if you are wondering about the lack of gaming skills  I am right handed  which is why you see me fumbling with the pen in my left hand and the game itself as I attempt to film with my right.

All in all this is the tablet I would play Starcraft 2 on , at speed , as you can see ,even though I have also run the demo and website together on the dual screen Iconia , and Libretto , as well as playing on the atom ion powered joojoo. If you are noticing a theme here ... it is that if you want to seriously game you need Windows 7 on your tablet ... and they are getting faster every month ... sooner or later someone will wake up and add discrete graphics (up to date discrete graphics )

And  by the way the screen and keyboard on the Lenovo X220T are the finest yet seen... the touch as you can see from the video is also present and fully functional ... hmm serious games ... I think I shall try Angry Birds next .... more to follow ..

PS did I mention the build quality is awesome , there are no dead pixels , the machine feels like the most solid brick of Lego you broke your front teeth on ..in your infant years (hopefully) .. and it is whisper quiet even when uploading youtube video whilst downloading Crysis 2 on Steam whilst encoding another video and typing this blog entry ...

hmmh  1 month of waiting ... I guess patience is it`s own virtue...
