The New iPad 3rd gen review part 1: iOS post PC experience vs Windows 8 post Apple experience

New Apple IPad Day has been and gone so let's see how the New iPad stacks up against a Windows 8 dual screen tablet.

Of course like all the other blogs I could just  post a few shots of mine iPad  being opened ( oh go on then check out the pic below … wow tech journalism has come a long ways ...) .

This is thegameveda , where we have been playing with full OS tablets since the first iPad launched , so here I am pitting an i5 dual screen Acer 6120 with Windows 8 against my New Ipad , and I have a few words to say on the subject ..but first the video

Is it fair to pit an iOS tablet against a Windows 8 dual screen tablet ? Well hell yes , the point of the iPad is it outshines the pc experience ,leaves it behind , people even use the words post PC experience , and way too often.. every time you speak to an Apple employee .  The problem with all this post PC experience nonsense is that the PC fraternity has not exactly had a chance to put it's case across . Und so

It is absolutely fair and proper to compare the new iPad to Windows 8 tablet pc s  , you see the PC platform has now reached a post Apple point , Windows 8 bringing Apps , touch and full OS , CPU and GPU power and the freedom to do all this with or without going through iTunes or an App store.... on devices powered by Atom CPUS up to our soon to be built Ivy Bridge desktops . and on single and dual screen tablets with real digitiser pen input.

In a couple of months time the iPad's competition will not come from Android tablets , but full Windows 8 tablets , that can be as light and elegant as Mr Ive's design , but also pack larger storage , CPUs and GPUs and maintain the freedom and legacy of a full OS , as well as having far more advanced tablet and touch input features . Using my new iPad after messing with Windows 8 on tablets for 5 months , is like a major retro computing experience. Apple really have not changed anything in the way you control the device save for the multitasking multi finger swipe. In contrast to this Win 8 feels like it is the future , and to your surprise Win 8 brings effortlessly intuitive  control , the right swipe to bring up the metro and settings panel , the left swipe back gesture to bring up the multitasking menu , transitions accelerated by your GPU and 4 to whatever gig of Ram you have. It even has consideration for dual screen tablet users .  Using iOS  by comparison is like a quaint experience , and you need to hit that home button  way too often for my liking. Win 8s flicks , multi pane app views , multitasking menu and uncluttered screen make iOS  look more and more geriatric , and frankly right now iOS with its ancient tiles looks more like it came from the designers of Windows 3.1 than the alleged self monickered genii at Apple with their penchant for wild mountain cats.

The point is Apple's genius with the original iPad was halting our helpless year on year hardware upgrades. the iPad used a phone OS with a gpu incapable of running Flash , a memory size less than some Fridges , and it managed to wrap this up in a magical package that stopped me in my upgrade cycle ... no more tripple screen quad gpu dual cpu desktops for me ... as I finally had a device that let me do almost everything I needed to without initiating the mission control launch sequence it took to turn my desktop on .

Three generations into the iPad and we now see purchasing it is as much about hardware upgrading as our pc upgrading days ever were. The keynote packed hardware talk . all epenis stuff , faster gpu  , cpu , bigger than the rivals and with an unheard of screen resolution.

Now whoooa there Tex , I thought this was supposed to be a post PC experience , well here we are upgrading our iPenises year on year .... which is different from upgrading our PC s every year ? How?

The tablet verse is about to be shaken by the arrival of Windows  8 , and it is such a departure and evolution from both prior desktop OS ( Windows 7/OSX) and mobile OS ( Android/iOS) that you can understand why Apple has had to emphasise it's success .  50 million iOS device sales is cool , but nothing compared to 500 million Windows devices able to install Windows 8 in about 20 to 30 minutes.  And unlike Apple , Microsoft do not need to deliver new  hardware , it is already in place .

So my Ipad may have that 2048 by 1536 screen , but come September there will be Ivy Bridge powered tablets with such screens , and even without that hi a res , Win 8 is built to have multiple Apps open and programs (remember those) running on one screen even at a basic res of 1366 by768 and can do so on an Atom powered tablet like the joojoo with videos , apps , reading , multitasking all happening in a way that the new iPad cannot let you .

For me not updating the iOS control interface gestures is criminal , I have a screen with so much real estate , why can't we have the multipane sfx of Windows 8 ... unless of course we really cannot due to lack of Ram .

Apple need to counter Windows 8 by releasing OSX touch  merging it's desktop OS with iOS , iCloud is a beginning but will lead to users demanding more synergy between desktop and tablet platforms.  If Apple does this and sooner not later , then they will avoid doing what they did in the 80s and 90s when they gifted the PC space to Microsoft .  All this has happened before and all this will happen again.

Oh and some positives : What I love about the new iPad : Wireless N is dual band , many cool devices only handle a 2.4ghz band , the new iPad handles 5ghz , unlike the recently launched PS Vita for instance.  The display is to die for , you really can read the smallest text , now all we need is the ability to output that res on our upcoming 4k monitors and HMDs...There are no real AAA games that can take on the likes of dedicated handheld console games  , yes Sky Gamblers looks great , but it's no Uncharted or Mario . With all this hype about console beating performance we need to see some major softcos producing AAA games for this new hardware , and they have a few months left before iPad 4 rumours start circulating.

Most of all upgrading from the iPad  ( 1st gen) I love the lack of checker board  browsing!

More real world usage reviews and comparisons to follow

oh and here's the standard unboxing pic I promised at the start.....

it is heavy , heavier than I remember the iPad or iPad 2 , of course it might just be traces of Kryptonite in the new iPad's retina screen weakening me...

Windows 8 on the new iPad

Yes you can , thanks to Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPad - Splashtop Inc. ,you can stream your Windows 8 desktop to your new iPad . The experience is not in any way equivalent to using a real Windows tablet, but fun none the less , a glimpse of the future maybe ? Imagine Microsoft releasing their own optimised Windows 8 streaming app... Here are my first shots of streaming Windows 8 from the atom powered Windows 8 joojoo to the new iPad , and yes I am playing Sins of a Solar Empire Beta on the new iPad . One important advantage I found was that you can pinch an zoom the Windows 8 desktop on the new iPad to reach the tiniest of icons or text ,which you cannot do on a Windows 8 tablet. More i7 and i5 based tests and video  to follow

Diablo 3 on the new iPad running Windows 8 via Splashtop at 1920 by 1200 from my X220T

Here we have my first test of Diablo III , after 24 hours of installation , download and server problems.

This is the game running at the too high for my x220T res of 1900 by 1200 , basically after 24 hours I was just happy to get a game . More optimised settings and testing will follow . I have to say that this the way to play if you can , Splashtop frees you from incessant mouse clicking , and one can sit several floors away from ones 24 fans and TEC cooled desktop that moves more air than Mr Jordan or  for that matter your precious laptop which can stay safely hidden  in you panic room whilst you play at the bottom of the garden or errh any other location you fancy...

Playing through   Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPad - Splashtop Inc. , also allows you to zoom in on the game world . menus , conversations , decapitations and immolations....

The lag is not from Splashtop per se , it is in the actual Diablo 3 game itself , it is not at this stage optimised for Intel HD 3000 or GMA , at least not very well . Compare the speed of gamelplay of Skyrim ,Crysis 2 , Modern Warfare 3 and SWTOR in my previous posts to see that lag is not a problem with Splashtop even with intensely detailed games .

Still I will try to tweak the res for Diablo to see if there is any change , right now we are supposed to be thankful that Blizzard have servers online so we can play , expecting optimised code is probably asking too much ....I blame the constant needs of the Warfcraft nation....

Check out some in game snaps I took earlier

Check out  Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPad - Splashtop Inc. , in the App Store :

Siliconmicrodisplay ST1080 Review part 3 : satiating the AV trollarmy , playing nice with the new iPad ,IOS, Windows 8 ,gyro and cameracontrol

Welcome to ST1080 club .. the first rule of ST1080 club is to get over the Sony HMZT1 . With the ST1080  we are dealing with technology that is in many ways beyond the HMZT1 . Frankly all the usage scenarios make it almost a completely different form factor  . Yet  people are expecting  comparisons , so as I own both I will strive to give you my honest opinions . In the real world you have money to spend on one of these so I make no apologies in being brutal about shortcomings of either.

Und so part 3 of thegameveda ST1080 review designed to twist up the mellow of all those anal retentive av blog trolls continues irrepressibly ...

Of course there is bound to be  some redoubtably enlightened smarter than the average soul reading this who has managed to shoe horn his Sony HMZT1 into a Pickernic Basket  and attached it to his bonce to make the pain and suffering of using it even less bearable . To you sir I say I salute your indefatigability and watch out for bears in the summer ... Let's get real here Sony saw vast amounts of returns due to the comfort and eye strain issues relating to the HMZT1 , I myself returned a unit with dead pixels , the one I use now is actually my 3rd ( received 5 months after the first was never replaced)  the Sony Centre I got mine from had almost every unit returned , and vowed never to stock or take pre orders for it ,  and we are all familiar with if the lines don't cross stop using this device immediately welcome message that greets you every time you turn it on...  I loved the concept of the HMZT1 , shame about the execution.

And if you have to mod a $800 device you just bought to fit your head well...

On a more serious point , siliconmicrodisplay have to market the ST1080 to reach beyond AV blog members like these, something which Sony did not. Outside dedicated AV blogs who is talking about the Sony HMZT1 6 months after launch? Who owns one ? Who owns one and uses it on a daily basis ? How many are selling right now on eBay?  From the get go you can see the brothers Jin have targeted and shipped to both corporate and private consumers . The ST1080 needs to reach the widest audience , and have the widest application base . This is smds shoe in to many industry  and consumer pies . The ST1080 is not just your dream head mounted display ( nothing is ) it is siliconmicrodisplays mission statement , they are here and the future can only get better. That future is going to be decided by casual and serious corporate use of their product , so you can sit there comparing blacks , whites , fovs , colour etc all you like ..There is a type of consumer that does only this ...  Today your  choice at present is a 720p Sony HMZT1  head crab that is largely single use , is no more portable than a pet Hippopotamus , but has the deepest black and richest colours yet seen , or a 160 g 1080p multi purpose  ST1080 that has so many uses I am going to be happily figuring them out for weeks or months to come..

Right now we have satiated peoples appetite for comparison to the HMZT1 ( for now ) , let us get to the not so serious issue of reviewing the ST1080 . Today we test the field of view . screen size , scaling , and more importantly ponder the question of  having attached a 1080p HMD to your PC how you actually go about typing , mousing , and tapping your shiny new iPad on a 100 inch screen with a 1920 1200 desktop . We also touch on input and augmented reality using the giro and camera of devices like the iPad in conjunction with the ST1080.

When last I wrote I was contemplating sitting atop the Amazonian Rainforest canopy hooking my ST1080 , to the new iPad ,messing with iOS Apps and streaming Windows 8 .

Whilst some AV aficionados  would probably opt for some Unobtanium plated EMP  shielded HDMI cable ,  thegameveda opted to use Apple TV instead .  This nifty device lets you hook your Ipad up wireless to a display , in this case our ST1080 .

Why? Well now you are free to use both the gyro, cameras and touch of the iPad without puling on leads. Although the Unobtanium Plated EMP shielded HDMI lead is probably cheaper than the Apple TV...

The first test I carried out was to stream Windows 8  , with a HMD  , anyone telling you the PC desktop display is as sharp as a monitor is lying . You will not be able to see text in the corners outside whatever sweet spot deal  your eyes form with the optics of the HMD .

What streaming Windows 8 through splashtop on the iPad gives you is the ability to zoom in with touch any where on your 1920 1200 desktop , suddenly those icons , those clicks can become pixel perfect , you are no longer constrained by dragging a mouse on a desktop in your head mounted display . Having said that as I stated in my previous post text is far sharper on the ST1080 than the HMZT1 and you can see more of the flat desktop without blurring edges or having to do the one eyed Pirate Jack manoeuvre to chase a blurry icon or read the time in the corner of the desktop that you would sometimes with the HMZT1 .

This is because the HMZT1 was designed as a personal film viewer first and head mounted display second. So when the screen is black and Transformers are exploding in a shower of sparks it is great , but take to some serious work and your head will be exploding ... yes even yours Mr Pickernic Basket.....all your ingenious modding will not turn a film viewer into a device you can actually work on. Square peg round hole...

So Windows 8 looks great whether streamed through your iPad or directly through your PC . The raw resolution of the ST1080 and its sensible design makes it a win if you ever want to do anything other than just watch 10 3d films over and over and over and over again.

And one of these things may be to hook up your Android or iOS device . Take the new iPad switching off Splashtop , I am out of Windows 8 and in seconds playing Skygamblers , the powerhouse show off app used to demo the new iPad . Now the ST1080 acts as your main monitor  , the iPad becomes your touch and gyro operated controller . And then it hits you , the scale of the screen is enormous . Playing Skygamblers on the retina display is cool , playing connected to large plasma is impressive , but playing it on a 100 inch res ST1080 hmd is jaw dropping . Flying over the cities you feel vertigo looking down , the fov seems larger than on the HMZT1 and you are controlling your plane with the gyro in the ipad tapping away to fire etc.  NOVA 3 , and 2 will also floor you  . They fill and scale to the entire screen of the ST1080 . Now sit yourself in a rotating chair and you are away , gyro heaven , as the ST1080 is light enough to let you . And the resolution is blinding . Just think when you have this hooked to the likes of Crysis 3 next year ! ( Sorry I shouldn't feed the trolls)

Of course you can also mess with all your other favourite IOS apps , many do not fill or scale to the entire screen , but those do not scale on tv output any way.

The dream of many HMD fans is to pair gyro control with the head set , your wireless ( via Apple TV) iPad gives you a glimpse of that right now...

Another is augmented reality , because of the portability  of the ST1080 , you could easily use  your phone or iPads camera and LAYAR or GOOGLE GOGGLES for your augmented reality fun in fact , you can use the iPads camera to look behind you ! or of course just infront , move it around and your get a full view. With my light sabre in my right and the Ipad in the left I am as good against remotes as Luke ever was with the blast shield down  ... and the living well I see them too thanks to the wireless image beaming from the iPads camera to the ST1080... ok trolls this is a Star Wars reference Google it please ...

All of this before we even take the back blind off ! Or my Raspberry Pi arrives...

For those that are asking for a video review , this is pointless  , what exactly could anyone show you other than them sticking it on their face? The effectiveness of HMDS relies on the optics of the device working with your eyes , every one is different you may have a totally different experience . All reviews of such devices are therefore subjective , other than regurgitating statistics from the manufacturer every reviewer is going to have a different opinion . Simply put you have to try them for yourself . Right now the HMD is really a niche , early adopter device ,expect problems , like the first batch of HMZT1s had , par for the course but that is the price you pay to go on this journey of discovery .. there i go feeding the AV trolls again .... if you want statistics read the official site , if you need to know how these things feel , work and mess with you on a real basis from a real person then come back for part 4 where I finally dust off my PS3 Phat , Xbox 360 and some PC 3D gaming.. and yes of course I will be comparing it to the HMZT1 just for your Mr Pickernic Basket.....

To repeat this feat of daring do and annoy many an AV blog troll you will need the following :

Cinemizer OLED HMD+iPad Augmenting Reality : Taking Mobile HMD and AR beyond Google GLASS limits at the Grand Canyon and Apple HQ

Can you see the light, can you see the light shining from my face ?..the late great Jeff Healey used to shout at his mesmerised audiences. Jeff Healey was a person who took a perceived weakness adapted and augmented his guitar playing, enhanced it to point of being one of the greatest guitarists in history. Now we are not all born with the talent to adapt or develop skills to Mr Healey's level but technology is moving further down the road to being able to give us augmented abilities ..

To date hmd fans have largely only considered Augmented Reality through the Google tinted looking GLASS. With only a chosen few actually experiencing what Google term and define as AR. But GLASS as an AR defining device has it's limits. What if we were  to look beyond current GLASS  and AR usage paradigms ? What if we actually want to seek to benefit from augmenting a real world physical task like photography or filming? Not tag a photo with GPS, or take a photo with voice, or indeed share it, no what if we actually want to improve and enhance the act of taking that photo in adverse conditions like extreme sunlight? Using a HMD to actually perform better at a task rather than simply aping a task.. Let's take a look at Augmenting the Reality of photography and filming, and how a 2013 cyberpunk like you or me can outdo the sun.... so what do you think? Can you see the light ?

Lost or unleashed in the Great US of A, having escaped E3 2013 and LA I gravitated .. naturally to the nearest tech haven, no not Oculus VRs headquarters in San Diego ,where the O Team were busy in meetings recovering from E3 and securing several millions of dollars of funding ( hi Steve thanks for trying ! Universal was great..) but East ...

And so it came to pass I was standing in San Jose, with time to kill and the whole of Silicon Valley surrounding me ...Ennio Morricone playing in my head... Presently I found myself at the  Tech Museum whose exterior was adorned with a several story mural promising  a Star Wars exhibition that on entering you learnt was going to happen sometime in the future oh I thought just like the promised Episode VII and my consumer version of the Oculus Rift . Inside taking advantage of the air con, I asked a kind lady the way to Apple and Google and Facebook...A printer whirred and out popped Google Map navigation instructions. Which of these three great tech giants would I visit? Well I hopped on the first bus that turned up  at the end of the square as instructed and I was off, air conditioning cooling me down in 90 degrees of dry heat.

Hopping off the bus and walking a couple of miles in said dry heat, to reach 1 Infinite Loop I walked in and made my intentions clear to the Apple front desk person, another kind lady.

I was there to test the Cinemizer OLED with the Apple iPad 3, promptly an Apple PR person arrived and said you can as long as you do no steal any secrets.. To which I agreed ..Not even needing to sign anything on an iPad or do the secret Apple handshake  They then let me film outside Infinite Loop.. nice people, Apple people...thanks for the opportunity!

So let's get serious the aim of this test is to:

1. Show how mobile use of hmds will dominate VR and AR fields. People have begun to talk of VR and AR pioneers ...but they talk from the developers side, both VR and AR fields are going to evolve also through the user side..Your hmd's users will in time be considered just as much  pioneers as the developers of hardware and software  and it is they who who ultimately pay your wages once the Angel/Troll funding dries up. Users  will dictate the future use and direction of hmds, VR and AR..and commercial viability and take them beyond what many reviewers consider today as mere gimmicks. Google understand this, other hmd/VR/AR companies need to catch up to this. Or you may just develop 17000 apps that no one uses or has use for...

The recently publicly released LEAP Motion is also presented with a similar issue: good against developers is one thing ...good against users ..that is something else.. ( sorry Mr Lucas). I love the LEAP as a piece of hardware but how are people on the street going to see it or use it?

Portable computing and hmd usage, mobile hmd usage of the kind you see tested below,  exists and is viable now.

Much more on this next time : back to the test:

2. The real world aim of this test is to solve a problem.

Problem

When using your tablet or phone in bright sunlight as a camera, or even your swanky new large touch screen camera, the display blacks/whites out due to the brightness of the sun. You can usually just about make out where to click to take a picture, but in all honesty you are hoping things work out.

A transparent hmd like Google Glass may work with some shades, but you still cannot view film or take pictures in their natural form. In fact in total bright sunlight that display is going to be obliterated also..and or it will become difficult to select images in bright light.

You also cannot view pictures in high resolutions deemed necessary by serious photographers , or view 1080p video.

So what if you want to be able to see a crystal clear unadulterated image or video that you can then capture without any hindrance from sunlight?

Solution:

Exploiting a portable opaque OLED HMD as an Augmented Reality device :

When I use the term opaque, I mean totally light blocked, like the Cinemizer OLED or the smd ST1080 with light blocker. Put these on and very little if any direct light can get in to affect the display.

Outside Infinite Loop and out of respect for Mr Steve Jobs, simply connect your iPad (or iPhone) to your Cinemizer OLED hmd. Using Lightning connectors and the old HMDI connector depending on your model of Apple device. Both devices have portability and power sorted and you are now wearing a portable computing device, seeing through the iPad or iPhone cameras using the hmd. There are around 10 hours of power on your iPad and around 2 to 3 on your Cinemizer without having to recharge.

Now you can take pictures and film in bright light and actually see a 40 inch OLED view of what you are photographing or filming. Nothing, no significant light can get into the screen that is set 2m away from you on your hmd, you can still look down to the iPad or the ground. But you have eliminated the sunlight obliterating your phone or tablet or camera view finder or display. Allowing the hmd/tablet user  to pick and chose what you film in these conditions instead of just blind guessing and clicking in bright sunlight as so many people around me were doing with the same tablets and later phones:

Here is the video I filmed wearing my iPad 3/ Cinemizer OLED hmd setup : This one's for you Steve (Jobs that is not Steve from Oculus, you will have to wait till I find a mobile power source for my Rift dev kit rev 1):

This was cool because there seems to be a special vibe you get using an Apple product at 1 Infinite Loop and of course because it worked! And because of the comments of passing people who noted that GLASS was already surpassed.

And this brings me back to the point on users not just developers influencing products. In our connected world a simple user like me can also be a developer present at E3, or outside Apple connecting with hardware and software developers, aiding or commenting and ultimately influencing the evolution and use of these devices. You can do this now, for yourselves and companies that listen or place a modicum of value to this new type of feedback stand to gain and in some cases could at the very least  gain a sense of humour ...

Speaking of connecting, my day at Apple over I headed over to where they all eat watched a football game and a couple of days later woke up in Vegas ...from where I promptly felt the need to use the Grand Canyon as a testing ground for my new found way of using hmds ... and meeting yet more game developers...

Cinemizer OLED+iPad 3 vs the Grand Canyon

At the Grand Canyon, South Rim. The heat was close to 100 degrees, the sunlight obliterating every phone, camera and tablet display except mine: a perfect test ground for the Cinemizer OLED and iPad 3 camera set up. Check it out ...

Using the Cinemizer HMD also enhanced taking pictures with the 5MP iPad camera , the 13 MP Samsung Galaxy S4 rear camera .. through the Cinemizer HMD, with a 40 inch crystal clear OLED display as my view finder. So when people around me were experiencing blacked out phone and camera screens like so

whatever the resolution or power of the Camera on this phone, the light renders photography or filming as guess work
I was standing in almost the exact same spot able to take pictures like the ones below : that actually looked clearer and sharper than the display you are using now to view them ( unless it is an OLED display!)

if we want to look over the edge we no longer have to lean over the edge , just point the camera downwards and the hmd displays the view :

we can also take pictures using the front cameras of the iPad 3 and S4 and of course still see what we are taking pictures of on the HMD , even look behind us whilst looking forwards with the S4's dual camera mode...

This being me of course video games follow me everywhere even to the arid 100 degree desert. As luck would have it I found myself with a party of most excellent Japanese tourists, into which I blended Altair style, being flown to the Grand Canyon on a propeller powered flight that was more impressive in terms of a thrill ride than the Universal Studios Transformer's ride the Oculus Team had sentenced me too several days earlier (only joking Palmer!)...I mean Michael Bay you should try this ..and you get to experience it on the way there and back. So regaling one of my fellow travellers with tales of my Nihon adventures,  discussing the sights and comparing experiences of Japan and Tokyo I discovered the dude worked for Capcom...

So from Nevada to Arizona and back again , in a shakey prop plane that would have had Indiana Jones jumping out in a life raft, this amazing guy and I talked about Hachiko  and Capcom games development through a translator as my Japanese is pretty rusty, since I last used it to play Samurai Warriors RPG on a SNK Neogeo..

Providence... All in all I probably got a longer interview off the cuff with a Capcom employee re Capcom than most journos at E3...

So there on this journey to and from the near 100 degree heat of Grand Canyon and  waiting for our plane back I argued against DLC and Capcom's reliance on it. Sadly I was told it was here to stay. But there was good news too, it was here in an air conditioned airport lobby that I got to first learn of Street Fighter V ( and beyond) and more Resident Evil, or Biohazard as my Japanese friends preferred to call it.

I also talked 3D and hmd gaming with the Capcom employee on the plane ride. I play Res Evil and many Capcom games in 3D with headtracking already as you can see here  . Capcom however on consoles at least have no great faith in 3D gaming, it seems most Japanese developers take on it is that this was a fad for a couple of years. There seems to be no great push for 3D or hmd gaming. In fact a complete lack of confidence in it from what I could glean. This is significant for hmd makers and so called VR pioneers, either a sign of wisdom or shortsightedness on Japanese developers part...we shall see..in the game..

Here in the Grand Canyon thousands of miles from the gaming caves of the UK , without any Internet connection or working phone, thegameveda still manages to get gaming information ... dedication ...or perhaps these guys follow me around or perhaps this is providence or karma maybe?  Every time I try to leave....

Sometimes it pays to leave VR and check out some actual reality... the whole video games and tech sector needs more humanising ..people need to meet outside name events too...  more to follow including a diatribe on how and why the future of VR and hmds lies in your pockets...

If you are out there in bright sunlight with your expensive or cheap camera, know then attaching a hmd like the Cinemizer OLED can and will enhance your photography.. and in doing so you just augmented reality... see the light?

Just remember to have someone pull you back from the edge or you will be filming your descent Google GLASS style, albeit using superior OLED displays...
