Homeworld 2 played with the power of touch on joojoo

I should be playing Killlzone 3 , but I have more interesting quests at hand , for instance:

Using the power of the nVidia Ion gpu in a joojoo tablet to play the classic Homeworld 2 (demo) . if you have a Windows based tablet go for it , this game is awesome , and made for touch , even though Relic probably never considered it would or could be played this way : 

The Homeworld games have an almost hypnotic quality , with depth that will keep you playing 8 hour battles into the early hours , and that is before you get to all the user created mods ...

Acer Iconia Dual Screen test XII : Playing Homeworld 2 across BOTH 14 inch touch screens

This Good Friday thegameveda is not down with the Portal 2 media hype , thegameveda remembers when games took longer to start than the 5 hours it takes to finish Portal 2 , and forget  Boon et als latest Kombat , Johnny Cage wins needs to be shouted by a Snes or Genesis sound chip. Those graphics need to be faux scanned 16 or 8 bit colour  2d sprites . There needs to be mortal kombat between Snes and Genesis/Megadrive owners .. that is what made the game . These games will be bargain bin in a few weeks , so hold off people . 


Today ,  thegameveda made a happy discovery whilst performing the latest test of the Acer Iconia Tablet .  Playing Relics finest Homeworld 2 , was always going to be on the test list , I have already shown it running on the Joojoo , but was having trouble with the higher res on the Acer Iconia , twas then I actually opened the read me , discovered adding a   -w 1366 -h 1536   switch to a new shortcut to the game , actually stretched the game across both screens !  I played through the 2 demo missions and tried to film them with one hand , whilst playing with the other . 


Relics Homeworld series has an amazing hypnotic quality , and on the dual screens of the Acer Iconia it looks amazing , still the most beautiful Space bound RTS . 

look at the size of that thing!

the Iconia continues to impress , and Mr Steve Jobs , hurry up with those iPad 2 stock increases , I may even forget about iPad 2 altogether at this rate ...

Homeworld 2 played with touch on the Toshiba Libretto

Yes I could go download some old games for free on PSN , now that the EU store is offering them , or about to offer them , depending on your location or I could draw your attention to Homeworld 2 on the Toshiba Libretto ,  here you see me playing on one of the 7 inch touch screens , using the keyboard on the 2nd touch screen , because Relic had the foresight to predict touch screen interfaces and dual screen touch screen tablets (!) you can actually set the game to any resolution , with a simple switch -w 1024 -h 600 in this case , or to play it in portrait mode just use -w 600 -h 1024 , and when you really want to impress use -w 1200 or -h 1200 to stretch the game across both touch screens , dual screen multi touch controlled  Homeworld 2 in the palm of your hands !   To be able to play classics like this in the palm of your hands , and be able to mess with them , changing the res , or using one of the many many mods is priceless ... so I think I'll hold off using that bandwidth for PSN for a little while longer ...

Onlive are giving you a free Game system , or game+Darksiders,and throwing in Warhammer 40000 Spacemarine with a $5 discount!

Onlive is THE  revolution , not a revolution , and its seems like every day there is another incentive to sign up , in fact every hour there seems to be one , with the PC demo of Red Faction Armageddon also an Onlive exclusive . Of course you could just go for this ridiculously generous offer  for Warhammer Space Marine , Relic`s latest!


In fact depending on how wise Google is with its Google Chromebooks , the ultimate gaming machine may be one that boots in 8s to the net that you hook up to your hdtv , or take with you , for everyone else there is always the official free console to use ... 


One day the folks at onlive will have the power thanks to millions of users to do away with fees altogether , with ad run games , the same way we have ad run channels on our tv .... woah children its just a shout away....


I do find it ironic though that the onlive service which is so reliant on fast broadband is aimed at countries at present with super slow broadband , leading in the USA and Canada . Onlive should have rolled out in the territories with super fast broadband  Not least South Korea , or for instance here in the UK and EU where the target audience for onlive ,core pc gamers , already use 50 to 100 meg connections . Thegameveda easily plays Onlive and Gaikai streamed games using wifi such is the speed of our broadband that in the UK we do not even need the wired connection that onlive recommends. All the games you see me demo using onlive are on wifi , 3 floors away from the modem!  but sadly these are demos only as there still is no way to purchase games for EU gamers . 


So thegameveda waits along with millions of EU gamers but you know that doesn`t make the onlive revolution any less revolutionary .... Plus we will likely have 200 meg wifi connections by the time Onlive finish renovating those old soon to be vacated Wiki Leak  European servers .....

Warhammer Space Marine PC Demo running quite nicely on the Lenovo X220T`s Intel HD3000 GPU

The year is 2011 and there is only Warhammer ....Space Marine..... that is... but over on the official forum there seem to be claims of the game not running on Intel HD GPUS , so here it is actually running on an Intel HD3000 which lives in my Lenovo X220T .  The demo is locked at 1366 by 768 , turbo is not engaged on the X220T , it has 4gb ram to play with , dual channel 8gb would boost the frame rate even more ... but check it out it runs mighty fine for an ultraportable with just an integrated GPU...This is a 30 minute sustained test , and it will  actually run faster without Litecam 3 running in the background recording it ! The game was played  using a wireless 360 pad ...but you knew that already!

Playing the Warhammer Space Marine Demo on the PS3

Games you can play that allow you to use evolving strategies and skills are rare indeed , and Warhammer Space Marine from Relic is one of this rare breed  . This is a game you could play like a traditional 3rd person game, stand off at a distance and shoot or hide behind a shrubbery and shoot .... you could do that ... but you would miss the genus that Relic has woven into the game , this is Robotron  , this is Smash TV crossed with what the Dynasty Warriors franchise always wanted to be , with endless customization and upgrade micromanagement if you chose . 


But if you are truly core set the game to hard charge that army of orcs set your own challenges like taking them all out with just a chainsaw , you will be near death every second , but every second second you will also be near full health after stunning and relieving another orc of its major limbs . The rush you get from surviving one of  these encounters is second to none , and consider this is just the demo before you get to grips with all the different classes and 1 billion ways to adapt and mess with your solider .. or crusader and before you discover the jetpack  stomp!Or the way each class of weapon comes into it`s own...


Pity the orcs then .. for they are but core gamer fodder  as you can see in the video below

Onlive vs Steam Round 2 :Free to Play Weekend of Dawn of War II on Steam +50 % all Dawn of War Games and DLC

The year is 2011 and there is only Warhammer , as  I have stated before there has never been a bad Warhammer game , from ancient PC  and console RTS times through Kuju coded FPS console games , to Relics Dawn of War series and now the green Orc melon smashing Space Marine they are all great . Yes even Firewarrior which has to be played simply to hear Tom Baker utter the timeless sentence it is the year 40000 and ...you know the rest....


Right now t`is the season of merry gaming and the cloud ..well it`s raining games ..Hallej...sorry ... Round 2 of this weekends rumble in the cloud jungle  sees Steam hit back with a riposte and lunge at onlive: with an entire weekend of Dawn of War games free to play , once you have downloaded around 40gb that is ... This is a great chance to pick up some missing DLC , or you could just head on over to onlive and click to play the demo  of Chaos Rising instantly , or hey why not try out the games on onlive whilst you wait for them to download on Steam .. and then buy both versions because well that`s core gaming now isn`t it ....see synergy ... now if only Steam and Onlive would hurry up and get married or at least offer joint deals that would make the world a better place ...lalaala ...for the entire human race ...there are ch....shammmoaan !
