The Starhawk Beta Is live on PSN and downloading now which gives me time to wax lyrical about some Single Trac classics

Warhawk was a technical showcase for the original Playstation , in it`s time marrying the deliberately bad and ham acted FMV made famous on PC by Origin ( the We Create Worlds Erin Brothers one and not the orange thing that is about to be used to launch Star Wars The Old Republic) , and the areal acrobatics , vapour and lock on missile trails and combat of Japanese Anime (is there any other kind?). It is still impressive today , when I dust off that old black vinyl coloured cdrom and take it for a spin in my ageing PS3 ...

Warhawk on the PS3 is a quietly intensely addictive MMO action sim , more than a FPS , and more than action combat sim . With constant in your face ebb and flow action , and actual skill required to pilot /drive / shoot on foot . If you have a PS3 you need to try Warhawk .


What it lost for jaded old gamers like me , the ham fisted FMV of yore, it made up for in endless re playability . Warhawk then is a showcase that PSN , a free PSN is every bit as awesome as your always soon to be running out Xbox live sub.


Now as I prepare to  jump into the Starhawk Beta , the most ambitious game in the series , I can see echoes of fine Pandemic games like the Battlezone series , RTS , FPS and most of all the return of the skill based flight model and cannot wait for the thing to download , and to see if they made it 3D this time for added upchucking fx....


What I would like to see in Starhawk is player created FMV using the Playstation Eye , to create your own ham acted cut scenes in the best Biff from Back to the Future and Mark Why So Serious Hamill talking to Kilrathi muppets tradition ... yes games genres have tradition! 

If they let me out of my cell to comment on the beta I will , this and the other spawned from Single Trac original the upcoming Twisted Metal rehash have the potential to keep us busy on PSN for quite some time . Just as long as  you don`t have a fear of flying or flying clowns with flaming hair driving ice cream trucks...
