Fist of the North Star playing with a Ken doll and rocking out with no shame..really

Wise men say only fools rush in.....errhh ..... thank you very much

Wow last time I smashed up so much stuff with a Ken doll , it was part of a precious Barbie Ken collection , I was young and impressionable I might add . There were tears and screams , mainly from me as my sister took her revenge on my Action Man Steve Austin Evil Knevil collection . But now many decades later I have once again spent quality time  in therapeutic Ken pugilation thanks to  Koei Tecmos Fist Of the NorthStar .. and you know the soundtrack is pretty much the same as I remember from the Ken Barbie battles of my mispent but enjoyable youth....

Fist of the North Star is from the golden age of Anime , the first wave to hit the West on magnetic vhs tape !including  Akira ,Appleseed ,  Crying Freeman , Venus Wars , Patlabor, and errh Urotsukidoji ...(don't watch the last one with an audience present)

As an anime it stands shoulder pad to studded shoulder pad with those original greats,the later live action film was not bad at all  , and the game itself is going to be adored by fans. Time was you would have to import a game like  this , but today we don't need to , so ignore the reviewers too young to remember the 80s or Rick Springfield , enjoy the best heavy metal soundtrack in a game since the 80s [mkay] and set the game to hard to give yourself a challenge .  Remember to also set the voice to Japanese.

Fist of the North Star Kens Rage has a rare quality  , this is a therapeutic stress relieving game if there ever was one , the last time I played something this unsettling that was in fact settling , was probably on a Sega Genesis/Megadrive . And not a zombie in sight ,FINALLY !This is the game I will be coming back to for core comfort after my dalliance with the casual Kinect tsunami is over ... 

YAKUZA 4 battle demo on PSN : brevity and familiarity breed contempt?

Yesterday saw the release of a  Yakuza 4  three or four scene battle demo released on the Playstation  3 ,with game play and moves less impressive than the Playstation 2 original , this is one to download , try , and remove from your HDD  , before it has time to cool down from the 5 minutes it takes to play through... From this demo there certainly  is no sign of the excellence that got the game 38/40 in Famitsu and the Award for Excellence from the  Japan Game Awards 2010..

The banzai bit is the fact that as Sega are desperate to plug the game already , it is highly likely Nishki fans , retailers everywhere will take a Katana to the price , this will be a £17.95 /$20.00 game within in a month of release. 

Hey you know I play these games because the Yakuza series is where the Shenmue team and Seishin lives on .. let us hope this is just a dodgy demo and the game and story live up to the Yakuza name .

Regardless like it's predecessors  you will see this game hit the bargain bin very quickly in the USA and UK : so it is  no desu ka for now !

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 for £13.98 Red Faction Armageddon for £19.98: more summer games drought sale casualties..

Get it now from Game , where many Summer bargains are waiting for you , I did say that Marvel Vs Capcom 3 would be half price ....eventually ...... and now here it is for less than half price on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3   . I also jived about Red Faction Armageddon  hitting the bargain bins soon after launch and it has for £19.98 , Assassins Creed Brotherhood is just £14.98 , Aliens Vs Predator £4.98 all this and more at Game now ... shame then that I spent all my money on Steam sales ... but do not worry there is a lot of Summer to go ... and with the annual gaming drought in full force combined with a Western double dip recession or depression there will be plenty more bargains ... heck you may even have time to play a few of the games you buy ... how bizarre.....

How 180 seconds of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 could solve the USA debt Crisis before the Aug 2nd deadline ends Western Civilization ....

Currently the Democrats vs Republicans : Fate of the World  Clash of the Super Egos  is the most expensive arcade game played in the history of mankind ... 


Solving the USA debt crisis negotiation crisis  using a   ..BERSERKER BARRAGGGE!...


Ego conflicts and negotiation problems like those currently stumping Republicans and  Democrats are  dealt with by your average gamer in a bout of Marvel vs Capcom 3 every day... 


A 3 round bout of a fighting game like Marvel Vs Capcom 3 should readily reveal the flaws in negotiating skills and egos of the GOP and Democrats . For instance  on losing a 3 round bout  does one party storm out the room  and never want to "play " with the other side again? Or on losing a match do they keep the entire White House playing until they get one bout back  . Or do they keep playing past their predetermined deadline? Indeed both parties  may be addicted to arguing pointlessessly this would be revealed by them continuing to play the game so long trying to get one up on the other , that this impacts on their real lives , with them losing their jobs , homes , families and generally the respect of all mankind ...after letting the USA default on August 2nd.... At this point one could argue politicians have become as useless as the gaming addicts they often disparage ... addicted to oneupmanship and nothing else , completely lacking any benefit to society at all... in fact your average commonly disparaged gamer may have better negotiating skills , not least thanks to bouts of Capcom beatemups and of course those testing moral choices made during Mass Effects 1 and 2....


Und so ... Mr President and GOP get yourself a Marvel Vs Capcom 3 cabinet or game , set it up , play some 3 round bouts .. and solve or resolve your problems or on August 2nd it will be game over .. no more quaters to put in the slot , and all our bases R belong 2 China ... which they probably do already... 


PS I recommend Wolverine , Ryu and ,Spiderman for the Democrats , and for the Republicans I would recommend : Captain America , She Hulk ( very mavericky )  and Iron Man ....  


And no a bout of Angry Birds will not suffice in this case where the Fate of a World hangs in the balance , only an ego busting tag team beatemup  with the subtitle Fate of 2 Worlds will do ....

So people if you have games in your blood play `em while you got `em ... and send your Senator governor whatever passes for politician in your neck of the woods a copy of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and get them to duke it before its too late ...  the clock is ticking .. and given half a chance they will throw in a few more trillion of your dollars to allow their Fate of the World Threatening Clash of Super Egos to CONTINUE .. come August 2nd!

You know all that hoohah about PS Vita games costing the same as PS3 games ? Well it is true as demonstrated by Blaz Blue Contiuum Shift Extend for £19.95 , which is also how much it cost on the PS3

Marvel vs Capcom 2 wants to take you for a ride on iPad for $2.99

And today Marvel Vs Capcom 2 the Dreamcast and arcade classic ( later PSN and Xbox Live classic , oh and earlier PS2 and Xbox classic), the one with the 3D backgrounds that purists love to hate ,  hit iOS and cheap too : $2.99 which is less than some arcades used to charge for one bout with your local Capcom champ who knew all the timings down to each changing pixel..... Now no serious pro player is going to train on this version ,yes casual gamers they do exist . The pixelated sprites really do worry , I mean on the new iPad with it's 2048 by 1536 display you really want to tick an anti aliasing button somewhere , but there is none. The game has reasonable speed , not the speed Dreamcast or MAME fans are used to , but for $2.99 who can complain . Marvel VS Capcom 3 on the Vita this is not , but it still manages to take you for a ride.... just try not to drop your new iPad whilst your on it :

Dark Souls on Steam :Prepare to die one more time ...just one more time...

There are games that are easy ,there are games that are difficult even games that have a Legendary difficulty setting . Most are easily finished within 10 hours or so.

Then there are games where the difficulty is a game mechanic,the very reason in fact the only reason to play .The original Steel Battalion with it's back to the beginning you go every time you die mantra is one of these,so are the PS3 Demon Souls and Dark Souls. These games tap a gamers hunger for challenge, just like arcade games of old. Most of these games interestingly  have a Japanese origin, coded by core gamers for core gamers in the evolution of gaming culture the quick save arrived only with Western developer coded FPS games.There never was an F6 on an arcade machine now was there?

Dark Souls does have save points, but not in the traditional sense for every time you sit down to a camp fire you know all the monsters are being reset and you feel the shame of being too weak to carve through the demon hordes with your otherwise legendary gaming ego deflated by an umpteenth defeat. But that is when the magic kicks in just as this  game deflates your ego it reaches inside your psyche and reboots it so you come back from utter despair to face the hordes again and again and it never gets old. 

Here's my first 30 minutes or so, getting used to the 360 controller takes time coming from the PS3 dual shock and a controller is the way to play this game , not keyboard and mouse as you might think. 

Dark Souls is no Skyrim and never intends to be, you do not care for the story or plot or character development, it is pure arcade skill and challenge something which our Japanese cousins have excelled at since they invented the first arcade games. 

If arcades were still around there would be as large a crowd around the Demon Souls machine as there used to be around the old Kong,Street Fighter or Virtua whatever in their heyday. 

Demon Souls is a game of respect, so congratulations to From for delivering this on PC, now all they have to do is patch it up a little to suit the ever increasing demands of PC gamers. 

I would love to see FROM release the Armored Core and Kings Field series on PC eventually. 

The best deal for Demon doh!!! Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition I found was on Green Gaming Man with the 20% discount code it comes to £24 ... the rest wait till a Steam sale, although niche games like Demon Souls tend to hold their price.  See you out there...
