If you tire of the amazing external views , with glowing engines and glistening lights on ships and stations ,you can actually take the helm of a virtual 3d Bridge with full 3d characters at each of the control stations ,working control panels and view screen, its completely up to you how much you want to control the ship directly or delegate as a real commander would
From Larry Holland author of the XWing , and Secret Weapons series command many Star Fleet and non Star Fleet vessels , offline in single player campaigns and online , set up skirmishes how about taking on a Borg Cube with the Defiant - recreate your favourite battles, choose the advesaries and locations . scan probe communicate attack orbit and defend to your hearts content
The best thing about this game apart from the gorgeous graphics , and acutal cast member voices [ Picard , Data] is the number of enhancements and mods available , with extra ships campaigns , bridges and special fx added.This is why BridgeCommander is one of the most sought after StarTrek games. Just check Google for the modding community.It really is quite a sight to actually see phaser banks light up the hull of the Enterprise in a circular pattern before discharging into your enemies shields or following a photon torpedo crashing through the hull of a ship - eat your heart out Kahn [sorry wrong series]. and also quite a challenge to balance defence and attack as you shift power from ships systems .. but don't fret Picard is around from time to time to offer training and Data later on.With all the mods available you can now stage almost any battle in glorious 3d which makes this a must have for Star Trek fans.If you are a Larry Holland fan then this game is a must have , as it represents the only recent example of Totally Games coding outside of Lucasarts.
As Star Trek games go , Bridge Commander is the best , and Larry Holland and co manage to shame all the other softcos who have had several decades to perfect the license, but somehow always manage to fall short of expectations/hype [some might say much like the films].
